DO u guys wear steel toed boots? I do. I was wondering if it is really needed. I just like the protection feeling I guess. Plus, I like gugged stuff. I started wearing them when I was mowing a lawn and I saw some kids foot some how get caught under the mower and the blade nicked his toes.

Some do Some don't
We do.
In the winter the steel toe gets
really cold and hard to warm the toes,
and the metal plate in the sole of the
boot, you have to watch out for when
you are edging with a spade, you will
walk with a limp if you bend it. Had
to hit the inside of the boot with a hammer to
straighten it out or buy another set of
boots.

I use to wear steel toe boots years ago, but it seems I make too wide of a step causing the steel to kind of pinch at my toes too often. I think about the nicking your toe many times while approaching the deck to pickup trash or something and I notice the blades have not totally stoped just yet.

Also, GregR is right they are murder when it is cold. You never seem to have warm feet. I never realized it until I quit using steel toe boots.

I had a pair and didn't like them. Now I just wear regular toed boots.

I have worn them in other jobs. no way I could wear them to work in lawn care. :(

if they work for you, then great. they don't work for me.

besides, no way could I get my feet under the ole lesco with the thing running. as long as all my O-P switches are working that is (I hope)!

Don't know about the USA, but here in Canada you are asking for big trouble with workman's comp if your employees don't wear steel toe boots..if a guy dosn't have his boots...he goes home.... good luck in 2001

i wear john deere boots. they are waterproof, and oil and acid resistant, i was putting down a new floor in my shop, and the second step was to use acid to wash the floor. my boots held up exceptionaly well, you can't even tell they were used for that purpose. they were 129.00 and worth every penny, and they are not steel toe and it i am fine either way.

My cousin lost his toes while standing on a concrete wall that his brother was backfilling with rock and debris. he had Steel toe boots. Rock was just too much for the boots. We do not wear steel toe boots.

I wear them because I think they are better than having little protection. If big rock fell on your foot, nothing would help. I was just wondering if I'm the only one who wear them while mowing and junk.

I use um. I can't find a better fit out of the box than Lehigh 5421s. GET the WIDE fit regardless of size you choose. Only like $89. Last an entire season (Hawaii winter, spring, summer, fall). Need every advantage we can get with all this power equip we use. Just last week I nicked the toes with chain saw (fatigue). Sure glad I had mine! Check out the link below its worth a look-see. So comfortable. Standard equipment for the City and County of Hawaii labor crews.

Soon, STeel toe boots will be phased out of most workplaces with OSHA's new regs.

They are going to require "Safety toe" boots made out of some crazy new fiberplastic stuff that is supposedly better than steel.

They did this because of all the complaints listed here, cold feet, metal gets bent and you could hurt your feet, steel gets crushed by an object and the steel actually does worse damage to your toes than the fallen object would, etc.

I wear Safety Toe Boots all the time. I saw my neighbor slice 4 of his toes in half like a piece of bread with a lawnboy once when he slipped backwards down a hill. Scared the hell out of me, still does when I think about it.

Its better Safe (and uncomfortable) than sorry guys!

cintas uniform makes a steel toe tennis shoe that is oil/slip resistant and is very light and comfortable just stop one of their trucks and check them out. cost about 50 bucks good commecial grade shoes. works great unless the work calls for a boot, this is the best allround shoe i've seen.

Steel toe boots, safety glasses, hearing protection, and when using a chain saw... chaps and safety gloves. No one is going to be inattentive or have an accident until that one time. It's all fun and games till someone pokes thier eye out.

Steel toe boots are good if there is nothing heavy enough in your work environment that could collapse the steel and cut off your toes. You are actually better off to have crushed toes than amputated toes. My brother will not wear steel toe boots and I once worked on a forestry crew where the boss prohibited steel toe boots.

red wings. i used to wear others like cat, some from timberland, all that stuff. not bad boots however they were shot after a year. the cats i actually trashed after about a month of workin. 2 years ago i got a basic red wing for about 195.00 good boot lasted 2 years. but no thinsulate or steel toes. now i have the logger boots with the steel toe and the thinsulate. i would rather wear those than wear my sneakers. they take some getting used to with the big heel but i like them. they cost me i think like 230. but they last for several years and you can have them resoled and everything.

We wear steel toes, I require it. When I started in the bus., I worked for a national, they requied it strictly due to worker comp, I just carried it on.
