74 chevy heater/ac

Can anyone give advice on my 74 c-10 when heater is turned on
i still get some air out the ac vents how do you get at the door that controls this? Chevy shop manual seems very unclear on this to me.
Any ideas appreciated as I cant see how you get at this mechanism without taking the entire truck apart. Or is that the answer.

im pretty sure some air is supposed to come out the dash vents.. thats how it is on mine

Air should always flow through the vents I think even in the new trucks it does but maybe not as much. Its part of some type of fresh air system they installed in these trucks so that something like 15%-20% fresh air is always coming in from outside...I'm sure someone can elaborate more on this than i can if this is what you are refering to...it also probably has something to do with why soem air comes out the A/C vents...I dont see how that would be a problem anyway unless your feet just really get cold ;)
