View Full Version : Watch Your Mulch

Got an email today from a buddy, in the message it discussed all the chippings and mulch from the aftermath of the hurricane in the New Orleans. Apparently the southern states have so much mulch from all the down trees they had to cut up, they are offering the mulch free for anyone that can haul it away. Apparently some larger mulch corps. and distributors...including Home Depot & Lowes are among the ones buying this, and they will be selling the mulch at a dirt cheap prices due to the fact....its free, it'll cost them next to nothing, big win them for them, but heres the catch, the mulch the are getting carries a type of termite only found down in the south, specifically New Orleans. Its called Formosan Termites and apparently the can eat your house in no time. So beware!

Thats very interesting, I would also think their would be a health issue involved due to all the disease that was spread during the hurricane. I'm sure some of the downed trees were submerged in the water that was disease ridden.

This is an Urban Legend. PLANJ looked into this and talked with Dept. of Agriculture. They stated that this is completely false and that all of the trees were quaranteened to specified counties in Louisiana. If you do know of a source and know it is correct, you need to call the Dept. of Ag. immediately.
