I had several lawns last year that had grub damage despit being treated with Lesco's Mach II with 24-5-11. I told my Lesco rep last fall I thought it was happening. He told the Dow rep and she never got back to him or me. This year I am going Merit despite the cost increase. You can't buy customers back.

Anybody else see less than satisfying results with Mach II?

at our Turf conference in Jan the university specialists addressed this some. They had been hearing all the negative feedback form Mach II also but could find NO scientific evidence of Mach II resitance or problems wiht the product. They did note that Mach IImay have changed slightly in recent years and that the rates have increased. Timming can be critical wiht any product as welll as rainfall and temps.

I heard that a few people in Madison area had almost 0% control with Mach II last year. The sales rep said there was a formulation problem and gave some customers Dylox at no extra charge. I used Lesco Bandit (Merit) and it worked great where it got watered in within one day. Had one spot in treated area where sprinkler wasn't working; there was a big round patch of turf infested with Jap beetle grubs. Just reaffirms how important it is to water Merit in immediately.

I am very familiar with the formulation changes that Mach II has undergone. The company I worked for in 99 had 0% control at .08% AI if I recall. They assured me that the 1.33 was the cure of that problem. It was very difficult to sell me back on that product. I have used it again for 3 seasons now, but this is it. I am not going to let the same product let me down ever again. I invest too much money in grub control products to ever have to accept total catastrophic failure from it...twice.

I also had some problems with the Mach II. Not last year, but the year before. That is why we went to Merit. No problems at all. Just past the cost on to your customer and give them a guarantee. They like to hear that.

I was told by a professor at Rutgers Mach 2 really works best with Japanese beetle grubs controlling like 80%, on other grubs it only gets like 40% control at best. Merit seamed to work well on most all grubs comparatively. The key is to identify the grubs your fighting in your location, in central jersey we have mostly oriental beetle grubs.:dancing:

I think we are primarily Jap beetles, although I have seen my share of European chafers. In recent years though mostly JB.

Have any of you heard of the Arena? This product is from Arysta Chemical and can be found by contacting your TURFGRASS, INC. sales rep... This product is new on the market and gives you 20-30 day surface insect control and season long grub control. Here in northern Ohio we had a bad problem with Chinchbugs, Billbugs and Grubs last year. This product is giving the 1,2 punch in just one pass with the sprayer.

Arysta is just a 3 way combo of Talstar, Merit and fert.

Mach 2 has very bad control of EMC grubs, and they use to market you dont need to water it in right away, they are finding out that yes you do need to water this product in soon after treatment.

Back when Mach 2 was alot cheaper then Merit it was worth the crab shoot to use it, now its priced so close to Merit there is just no reason to not use Merit....IMO

Arena is not put on a fert. yet. It is strictly WDG or .5G on a carrier. The nice thing is that your getting the surface control with grub control. You were right James with the Talstar/Merit combination. But you forgot to add that this product can be added as a curative like Dylox as well. It can be tank mixed with weed control in late May/June with complete control.

This product will be great for people who don't know what they are treating or why:confused: I bet it will even save some money over getting the two pesticides separately. I guess its just kill em all, good bad everything.:dizzy:
