Ok, looks like I am in need of a ztr. One that will last and last. For the price I want this to be my last mower and I would like yalls imput. The ? is, Deere or Kubota. Or maby Toro. Kohler or Kawasaki?

Either one will serve you well. I have all Deere equipment

What's you budget and how much do you have to cut?

My only question is: Why a ztr? I am a die hard Hustler fan. Really love the machines and what they do. But if I was a homeowner and I had the money to get a ztr, I'd get something like a John Deere X Series garden tractor or a similar Kubota. More flexibility with a tractor I think.

Tractors don't git it on my property. I used my neighbors once last year and felt like I had to have every turn pre planned to get to that last small piece of grass...... plus I love to stripe my lawn.

I can certainly understand that.

Depending on the size of your lawn (is it more than an acre, and how much more) you might consider a walk-behind with a velke, they're about half the price and you can stripe lawns with those just as well.

The wb cuts an acre in about 45 minutes with a 48" deck, you might consider the 52" float deck because it's easier to handle... Now if your property is 5 or 10 acres, at that point I'd say go with the Ztr.

Brand-wise, if you want the best, get a Dixie Chopper.

Far as motors, all my Wb's and the tiller have Kohler's, those motors rock and roll time after time thou I do run synthetic racing blend motor oil and 95 octane leaded. The Kawasaki is slightly more expensive and I dare assume it is also a better motor, but the Kohler is no joke, either one is a quality motor. I recently had the opportunity to test-drive a Toro dingo (walk-behind bucket loader) with a Kohler, and I ran that thing for about 4 hours and loved it, I'm stuck on Kohler but would not hesitate to recommend either.

Well it goes something like this. I farm so I have lots of tractors and a finish mower but like yall said it's a little big for the yard. And why ztr (speed). Oh and this is for the boss to use. I'm cutting hay most of the time so she cuts the grass. But if we had a nice new mower maby I could talk her into letting me play with it. I have a dealer for deere, kubota, toro, snapper, and bush hog. of those I like the deere or kubota but I don't here much about the kubota. It has a different deck mount than the others, clutch, and trany. I just don't know if it's the best machine for the buck. We only cut 2-3 acre and I know this is alot of cash but it will make her happy not to spend all day doing it.

Deere makes a fine machine, how much are you looking to spend? Lots of questions, I know, but we can help you out much more with more information.

I had a JD 717 and traded up to a 727...I also have Kubota L3410 tractor, both are great machines

Well the deere 717 is $6150 and the kubota zg20 is $6299. I went to the kubota place Sat and played with the zg20. After I took the diesel out that there pro tec put in and put some gas in it ran rather well. Good thing I do my own work. Nice gas gage and smooth pto clutch and it drives nice, the deck lift is ok but I don't think it is a big thing. The kubota place in about 45-50 min from me and the deere place is a 20 min drive. (Something to think about) I am not one to buy stuff just because it is green but the deere is nice. I played with one the other day, the hyd pump was loud, are they all like this? Who has the best cut? Thats the bottom line.....

Looks like I'm stuck with either the Deere 717 or the Kubota zg20. Tell me the good and the bad things about these two.

Thanks for your help

There have been quite a few positive posts here about the Deere. You might do a search. My only experience with Deere has been with repairing a small residential unit a couple of times. Absolute junk!

I looked at Kubota ZTRs, but wasn't impressed. Couldn't find anybody at the local dealer to even talk to. Again, do a search here for Kubota.

Are there any other dealers in your area?

I just bought a Hustler Mini Z and love it. They are running a special now for $5999 on the Mini Z that has a 52 inch deck and 19hp Kawasaki. I have been researching mowers for more than a year. After looking at several brands at dealers, comparing on the net, and following the forums I decided on the Hustler.

If those were my only 2 choices, I would go with the JD. Don't know much about Kubota but JD customer service is top notch.

Yep! That's what I'm thinking. I may get them to bring it out to me so I can play with it for a while before I make up my mind. I just have this thing about green paint,I hate to give in to it..... people think it's the best just because it's green and that's not true...like the guy said some of it is pure junk. (I said some not all) I have bought a few things from them and they have been good to me. You can get parts next day no problem, and that's on the older stuff. Most of the new mower parts are in stock and that's a good thing.

I do have a 1941 JD A just for fun. put-put-put-put-put

Thanks for you help

try a ferris with four wheel suspension, smoother ride, also husqvarna has a 5 year warranty. or a walker made by walker will last many years and if a motor or hydro gives out the warranty will start over again. nothing wrong with a small tractor with a woods finish mower if you don't many trees to go around. Kawasaki engines have a lot of torque.

Just found A Ferris dealer 30 miles away. Now I need to go look at them! Is it a good mower? 4wheel suspension sounds like a good thing.....

Went and looked at the Ferris 21/48 yesterday. The mower looks well built and rides like a dream. But the deck don't look as good as some of the others. Small discharge and thinner plate. How does the Ferris cut? And how much blade overlap does it have?
