Just curious, I've seen a few guys around here that are LCOs who I've seen doing all sorts of illegal stuff. I even worked with one once, before I found out about their "habits" on break. do you have a zero tolerance policy to drugs, and alcohol on duty?

people who do drugs, just scare me somehow, alcoholics I'm used to, but dont like much.

I'm not a business owner but if I found out that one of my guys was doing either or....drugs/alcohol on the job they would be gone. Can you imagine a customer coming out to ask an employee a question when they are stoned off their arse?? Really makes a great impression of your business..... Drug testing before hiring would hopefully take care of this problem. :cool2:

Who would want their employees smoking pot, drinking or shooting up and then operating equipment or driveing a company truck? Sounds crazy to me. An accident looking for a place to happen. I have workmans comp as required but I have no plan on using it if it would be for damage by something that stupid! It's Insane...and as was stated before...bad for you company image!

In my day, when I was in the field the drug policy was if you had some you have to share. Nowadays too much liability and the stuff is much more potent. I remember one year 82-83 around new years the lunch truck girls had pot brownies and long Island ice teas in the cooler, and they were giving them away. Needless to say that was a short day.

Zero Tolerance,And it has always mystified me why people need the artificial inducement, of dope.I have better methods of getting a rush.

Thats what I have to say too. to me, my rush is adrenaline from bringing trees down for the boss, which makes me happy. that and chucking logs into the chipper.

if ya need dope to make ya happy at work, I'll send ya packing faster than most people can blink.

We have pre employment testing and random alcohol/drug testing every month. All guys with CDL's have random testing through the state so they're not subject to company testing except for pre employment

Personally, I would like to see pot legalized (and very heavily taxed) mainly because I believe it to be far less harmful than alcohol. That being said, unless it becomes legal, I have zero tolerance for pot because of the liability issues it presents (not to mention the negative legal issues).
Just so no one gets the wrong idea it has been 26 years since I last smoked the wacky weed. I have had a CDL license since they were first issued years ago and get randomly tested often. This, is my drug of choice.

random drug testing. announced in the employment ad and done periodically without warning of 50% of the staff.

You only test 50% of your staff???

I don't test, but I have a zero tolerance policy. 95% of the time you don't need a test to tell.

Don't hire smokers for full time employment (unless you're in a bind). Ppl are super paranoid now a days, if they see someone smoking in their backyard they will rightly assume that the butt will end up on their property. Smokers are bad news (I'm a former smoker) almost as a rule. Same with ppl that ask for advances all the time.

no 50% on each test.

4 people then 2 get tested the ones tested are random. determined by the leasing company

i like a beer myself but never on the job,as for drugs,no way even if they do it outside of work. i have had money go missing on jobs and these people werent very interested in doing the invoiced jobs either.out of all of them though the gamblers are the worst.now when i employ people the first thing i ask ,do you take drugs ,gamble or drink during the day.i ask them this before i even ask there name

That's kind of a silly question. Who would NOT have a zero tolerance for drugs and alcohol in thier truck? hm lose you liscence, get yout trucj trailer and eqpt impounded and sold at auction. go to jail, lose your livelihood. hm sounds fun lets all light up and do lemon drops on the job, Isn't that why all lasers have cup holders or is that can holders? Hey, mine diddnt come with an ash tray fo roaches (making a note to call xmark about that) all kidding aside no fool in his right mind wouls allow such practices in a company vehicle

Our job app form includes a page about company policy all potentials have to sign: "no drugs, no ripped ratty clothes and you break it because you're an idiot, you will pay to fix it". They can't claim ignorance. In our area I highly doubt more than 1% of applicants could pass a random drug test... and we don't get enough applicants to toss 99% of them out at the door.
The premise is what you do on your own time, is you business, what you do on our time is our business... Come in hungover, and you will get the noisiest equipment, and crappiest jobs all day - you're life will suck. Come in drunk, you're gone. Get high once, and the boss will play head games with you, like you've never experienced in your life - do it again and you're gone. And by the way - he CAN TELL....

Thats funny about the he can tell thing..lol..Its amazing how they come in with a hangover and then the sun and heat hits and they are trying not to puke..then they say"man I'm never eating fast food again" its funny that they think they are really slick/smart..lol

At my old place of employment i used to manage the fert division and apply most of the products. Every morning i would stop at local coffee shop for the largest latte i could find, and tell them to trow two extra shots of espresso in it. Man what a buzz, if you thought redbull and all those other caffeine drinks are powerful, you should try espresso. The production was through the roof, til lunch when i crashed. lol But since i now own my own business i can no longer afford those five dollar morning drinks. Caffeine is the only drug floating around my business.

Zero, Zip, Nada tolerance....

Drugs or alcohol on the job results in immediate termination.

Continuing problems coming to work on Mondays results in one warning then termination if not corrected.

Had one employee to was terminated due to chronic Monday misses. 6 weeks later, he claimed to be cleaned up and asked for one more chance. He got it. Now a very good contributor and soon to be a crew leader.

Maybe, just maybe, our strong policy helped him turn a corner on drug use.
