Linear footage is the distance around you might be talking about Sq Ft?

A measuring wheel. Any local box store sells them.

While we're talking about it, we mght as well add that when it comes to mulch, you are THEN talking about cubic ft as the quantity. So, when you take your sq. footage, and multiply by how thick yiu need it, you then have yoour cubic ft. Just a little helpful hint: 1 cubic yd. (27 cubic ft.) is equivalent to about 100 sq. ft. (10x10) that is laid at 3 inches. I hope this helps.
