if you guys want to keep your mowers looking like the day you bought them , use eagle wet shine, the stuff works like no other and protects the paint as well.
around 400 hours on my lazer and it looks like its new, i wipe it down every other night in the spring and every 3 or 4 days in the summer. it gets all the grass off even by the bottom of the deck, ( the stuff that looks like its painted on). the 1st time you use it you might have to use alittle force to get it looking good again but its worth it. towards the bottom of the deck try a sos pad soaked in the stuff then wipe off the green gue with a rag.
you guys will be hooked on it after 1 bottle.

eggy, not only do all of us guys want our yards to look the best, but we want to look the best as we do it, our personal apperance and the way our machines look. personly i don't want to show up to someones house for the 1st time and have my mowers looking like they were in a mud and grass fight. even if i look great that won't look good over all.
you can buy this at anywhere you can get auto products. its the best stuff out there, trust me on that.

Greased lightening is about the best stuff I've used to clean grass gunk off with. I usually wash my equipment once every two weeks. My customers want their lawn looking good, I don't think they really care about my mowers being clean.

Man you guys must have too much time. My equipment gets cleaned at the end of the season. I barly have time to change the blades and grease them. We've been working till 8, 8:30 everyday exept sunday and thats the last thing I want to do at 8:30 at night is polish the mowers. I don't even touch mowers on sunday. I realy don't think customers care to much if your mower has some grass on it, after all that is what they are ment for plus most of my cutomers arn't even home when we're there. Oh well if you guy's like shin'in up the equipment, more power to ya.

I have never waxed my mowers but probably will after reading this post. I do wash them often as part of my PM program. It seems that if they are waxed they would probably be easier to clean, therefore less time washing and more time cutting.
Southside when you wax your mowers on a regular bacis, your equipment looks great and it is easier to stay clean. I just don't care for my mowers looking like some of the LCO Co.i see, some of there stuff looks like its 20ys old and has never been clean. I find time to wax my mowers plus i have two bass boats and i clean them and wax them when there dirty. Sunday evening is a good time for me,or a rain day you can sharpen blades and cleanup your equipment. I just like my stuff looking good, surely you find time to wax the truck. Marks Mowing Service

I keep my mowers looking clean but waxing them....come on guys, i really think u have to much time on your hands. I work from 8-7pm 5 days a week and on the weekends i dont want anything to do with lawn care...an employee picks up my trailer from the yard on saterday and power washes every thing and sharpens new blades for the whole week. my stuff looks great, i mean u cant avoid anything getting scratched up excecially if your not the one operating it.

Grassyfras, I think hosing your mower off will be fine as long as you let it cool down completely. I pressure wash my mowers every two to three weeks on Sundays when I have nothing else to do. When cleaning around the engine, I put on the widest nossle possible and spray from a distance. This works very well for me and I've had no problems so far. Once I got to close on the gas tank and the pressure washer cut a small gash in the tank. Be carefull with high pressure equipment.. If you are refering to normal water hose pressure you will be fine. Just let the motor cool down before you spray it.

good tip
I like all my equiptment to look like new even if I don`t have a lot of time to do it ,because it tells the potential customer that you are contentious, and will probally do a good job for them, this has happened to me many times when going to give bids to potential customers. Also I just get off on shiny truck and equiptment clean as new.

Ok I have never really washed my mower before. I wash the underside of the deck at the end of pring and at the end of summer. However I am now going to find time this weekend to wash the dang thing. I just went outside with the dogs and for the heck of it I took my wifes Lysol kitchen cleaner (citrus smell) and sprayed dow a couple of areas. I let it sit for about 5 minutes and took a paper towel and lightly rubed and the dirt came off with ease. I guess i will take it to the car wash friday after noon apply lysol and wash. I forgot my mower was bright yellow and not mustard brown LOL.

Joshua is fortunate enough to have that "18 Year Old" energy factor we ALL wish we still had. Remember the days of working all day, staying out all night, then working all the next day and not even blinking an eye? I sure do and would love to have half that energy back! Now it takes an IV drip of caffeine just to get out of bed some mornings.
Whether you have "to much time on your hands" or you are over extended for what you can probably handle, cleaning your equipment is a significant part if preventive maintenance. By cleaning it thoroughly you will find oil leaks, deck or frame cracks or dents, uneven wear, worn belts or tires, etc., much sooner. We all know it is better to find a problem BEFORE it finds us.
As a spin off from Jiffy Lube commercial...
Be good to your mower and your mower will be good to you!
Mark
PS. Joshua, thanks for the tip!
