I was planning on going door to door today, but the weather is supposed to get bad late this afternoon. So I was wondering when should I leave to pass out flyiers. Before lunch, at lunch, or after lunch. What is the earliest I can go without making someone mad? From experience I am sure some can tell me. Share some stories while you at it too.

As long as it is after 8AM and NOT a Sunday and NOT AFTER 6PM anyday of the week (except Sunday of course). NO door hangers on Sunday. Remember that....

Sunday is not a day people want to be disturbed. But while typing this I am thinking that Sunday would actually be a GOOD idea as most everyone is relaxing and looking at their lawn. It is that time that people think to themselves that maybe the yard could look better but have no real motivation to do it themselves. They would most likely be in the frame of mind to discuss yard care but thinking it is Sunday that no one is around a LCO to talk to anyone. By Monday they have other thoughts on their mind so a LCO could lose out.
Good call! SUNDAY is probably the BEST day to go out and network!!!

OK...well from the original post I just figured he was going to pass some hangers out, not knock on doors.
Weekends in general are good for this sort of thing, especially a nice warm day.
And so what if someone's mad...they weren't going to sign up with you anyway. You're going to annoy people here and there, nothing to get worked up over.

I'm just getting into lawn care this spring (Expanding) but I have delivered flyers and I think weekends are the worst days. I hire ppl to delivery my flyers but I still drive them around supplying them with flyers, I tell them to cut across lawns unless they see the home owner right there. Saves a lot of time but on the weekend there are ppl everywhere.

I guess all that paper boy practice you had??
Save time and MONEY!!!!! about double the amount of flyers your guys can get out for the same money. Two thirds of the cost of flyers is delivery so this is important but if you're just delivering your flyers yourself well.. I guess the more exercise the better:dizzy:

I have to agree. It pisses me off to think of someone darting across my lawn after all the hours I spent trying to get it from red clay to thick grass. It may look like crap, but it is theirs.

lol they are not paying the mailman for services so the mailman dont care. :nono:
if you are putting out MASSIVE flyers and dont have time to stop and talk to ppl then i would say 5 a.m.. I live in louisville, big city, and have been putting out flyers until i reach the 10,000 mark. we start at about 5 a.m....there is less traffic then!

10,000 in one day?
Tell me more plz, how many ppl deliver, is it houses? etc. I'm very interested in such stuff.. The most I can get out is about 2500, after 6-7 hours everyone is tired and can't go on or they slow down so much I don't want to pay them any longer.

Best time is late night we go out 8pm - till we get tired... You dont see anyone and the main reason for this is because think about it... If you put them out during the day people get off there 10-12 hours days of work they dont want to think about landscaping or any flyers in there mailbox... When they wake up at 7-10 am and get the flyer on there door with there coffee they probably 97% less stressed out and in a better mood then getting off work..
and a lot of calls come from people from work i guess people have alot of free time

When I pass out my flyers on foot I start at 8am and go until around 8pm as well. When I am passing them out in my truck I start around 5am. The best way I have come up with passing them out is to buy those plastic door hanger bags because they don’t blow off the mail boxes. I know they cost more but it looks a lot better and I know every house will get one because they wont blow away.

I am not sure about your areas but here people do not like being bothered on sunday. Iwould not do it on sundays but that is just for my area. From all the posts I have read I think flyers are a waist of time and money for the small return people are getting.
That is just my opinon though.

I know I hate being bothered on the weekends by anyone, it pisses me off when someone is bothering me on my day off.

I'd rather spend money on flyers then on the Yellow Pages. But I hire my own ppl to delivery so they are not clumped in an adbag with 10 other flyers or in a pull out section of a newspaper. I also drive these people around giving them flyers at the various streets. I know they are delivered, and all by themselves to, granted, I have to watch what time of the season I'm doing this. Window cleaning is busy in spring and fall, in the middle of summer I get nothing.
I would say that if you see someone out in their yard on a weekend that may be a potential client, then stop and talk to them. Be neighborly and just talk, bring up the fact that you are a pro looking into working in the area. Then ask them if they are not intrested, if they were willing to tell you which of their neighbors might be intrested in getting service. As far as time goes, I would say strictly after 8AM.

Hey I go to church :waving: I went to church long before I decided to get into this business. Now I plan on mowing my church for placement in the Sunday handout so hopefully it will bring in many customers. We Christians help each other out that way.
