i need help for a kohler command h.o. 16hp sn 2923016011.
the starter hangs. it has gotten worse. sometimes you have to dc the battery cable to get it to stop. does the whole starter need replacing?

Sounds like the bendix is getting stuck. Take it apart, clean and lube if well used, go to warranty if new.

Could also be the Solenoid.

Absolutely. From the description I doubt it but thta certainly means nothing. It would be worth looking into.:usflag:

Dixon ZTR eh?

Model: CV16S
Spec: 43524

Inertia Drive Starter 12 098 22-S Suggested list price $130

I'd check the solenoid first.

The solenoid is not supplied by Kohler. Although Kohler sells a solenoid, you'll have more money if you get a generic one or one from Dixon.

To test it, make sure that there is continuity between the two large posts in the "start" position, and no continuity when the key is released. You'll want to get some wiring diagrams to help you diagnose. Really sounds like once the solenoid gets excited, it doesn't release.
