Crabgrass Application

If I lay down my crabgrass application a couple weeks before i dethatch will it be as effective in treating the crabgrass? I'm thinking that the application might sit on top of the dead layer of grass. not sure, need some help here.

Dethatching, aerating, etc needs to be done before treatment, not afterwards.
