View Full Version : Wright 52 Stander

Looking into picking up my first Wright Strander - own 2 Wright WBs and without a doubt the best machines I have ever purchased. Question is about engine selection, 19hp seems awfully small, is it? What did you owners go with, and do you wish you went higher - or lower.

I've used 52" Wright Standers for 1.5 years with the company I work for. They have 20 HP B&S engines. It will bog down in thick, tall grass. I would suggest getting the 23 HP or even the 25 HP depending on what your cutting conditions are and if you mulch or not.
If I were to buy one for my own business I would get the 25 HP without question. You can never have too much power, IMO.

I have the 52" with the 23hp......if you can swing the 25hp do it..... The 23hp is pretty good but more is better....

We have the 25 Kawi's on ours. Think it's the biggest motor they offer on the machine, with the big air cleaner. Thing is a beast, wouldn't even consider going smaller. :)

What about the new RH model, any changes besides the deck height adj?

From what I understand the only engine option on the RH is the 19kawi - need a few more choices.
We have a 52 inch 23HP Stander that seems to have sufficient power on cool season turf grass mixtures with our mulching kit installed. I would think the 19 HP would have left us a little underpowered during heavy growth perods with the mulching. It really depends on the type of grass conditions in your area and if you side discharge or mulch. The dealer felt 19 HP was everything we would need for mulching. I glad we went with the 23 HP.

I've got the 52inch Rapid height adjustment with the 19hp kawi on it. Its the biggest motor you can get in the Rapid height. I love it.. All the motor i could ever want. I wouldnt hesitate on purchasing another. Great machine. Cant beat em.

Test rode the 52'' RH today - awesome machine. Again only the 19'' has me a bit concerned - but as I look at things a Toro 52'' comes with a Kholar 20hp which is not really a 20hp, weighs 500 pounds more and no one talks about how thery are under powered. Normally I would agree a 52'' with a 19 is underpowered, but with the reduced weight and cutting speeds wouldn't it all equal out? Texas Bermuda can get thick in the Spring but that is about the only time of year I would be worried.

We bought 2 52, 23's , love them both. I would stay away from the RH , for 2 reasons 19hp, too low, and the narrower tires in the rear. Would cause rutting in the Spring . Narrower tires mean more #'s per square inch, than with the standard width tire.

Yeah I just read an ealier post where you wrote that - how pleased are you with the 23hp, and is the height adjustment a pain in the a$$?
