What is the primary reason that you are working in this industry? Do you do it because you like it or are you in it for the money?

I'm in it for both of the above reasons! I make a lot more money than I would if I had a regular by the hour job. I enjoy being outside and doing landscaping work to.

I am in this industry because I quit my job because they wanted me to change mt personality in 30 days or they were gonna fire me..so I had a freind who had a freind who owned and ran her own Landscape company and needed help..so I thought why the heck not..had never planted a plant in my life.So I went to work for her for 3 months then started my own biz..and I love it..people say I have a gift for it...and if I do then it's the only gift I have ever got so I am useing it to my full advantage, before whoever it was gave it to me decides they want it back!

03-15-2006, 07:50 PM
Why don't they have a both or other option? I enjoy the work (why else would I work 16-18 hr. days), the money, and the pride in the finished enhanced aesthetics which are directly related to the work I've done. Did the last one make sense?:dizzy:

Some people are made to fix other people, some to sort out the laws, while others try on a day to day basis to keep the nation running smooth, others may have the gift to fix your car or truck, some here have the gift to mow straight lines, while others create borders and pics for others yards. I on the other hand love killing those little darling weeds and making the world greener one lawn at a time. :usflag:

Before I went to Clemson for Turf Management I had my own business, granted it was not a huge business but it was a business. I love the work. I realized there arethings that I have to learn about turf and landscapes. So I gave my accounts to a friend of mine and I plan on opening another business once again on a much larger scale. You have to enjoy the work. I'm learning so much at Clemson, and I cant wait to take the commercail bidding classes. I already have job offers from major landscape companies and I listen to them all. I love this business.

i do it for both reasons, the money is better then working for someone else, and i love working outdoors. and i really enjoy mowing, and that i do believe is the key to running your own business, you have to enjoy what you do if you what it to work out, i have seen to many people start in the business thinking only of the money and when the next season comes around they are out of it.

After sitting on my butt in front of a computer 10 hours a day for the past 9 years, sneezing, sweating, getting stung, bitten, baked, and caked seemed like a good time. Seriously there is something about the instant gratification you get by cutting someones grass.

i'm in it because i like being in charge. i can do things my way and make a lot more money than if i worked some measly 9 to 5 job. i also enjoy working outside. the only thing i don't like is 90 degree summer heat. i don't care how cool you dress or how much you drink,90 still sucks.
