I have 1.5 ac. with hundreds of trees to get between. Mainly flat to sloping ground.

After reading and reading and reading on here, I'm looking at a 36"/16hp Honda Mini Fastrak. A local (Alabama) dealer quoted me $3,495. Curious how this lines up with other's pricing experience.

I have a friend in Madison who owned a Mini and loved it.He mowed a few lawns per week with it part-time.I believe he paid about the same as your quote.(From the same dealer probably)

Thanks Nick, First time considering such a mower. Didn't want to jump on what I thought seemed fair without trying to compare. I appreciate it.

I just got the MFT 42" with the Honda for about 3900.00. I was going to get the 36" then someone so-kindly reminded me there's NO overhang on the deck, at all. So to me that = more trimming and I didn't want more of anything, except mower & motor.

Call as many dealers as you can find, in what would be an acceptable driving range for you, and tell them your going to show up with cash if the numbers are right. NEVER tell them what the last guy quoted you!

I looked at them. Dealer said do NOT get the Kohler Courage engine. Otherwise, looked like a pretty good deal. I needed a grass catcher and the Mini-Fastrack wasn't up to that.

Fish - I came across the 'no trim on a 36" issue' last night in another thread and have decided to go with the 42" for the same reason. Quote for that w/16hp Honda was $3795. So he's fair I guess.

Steve - I'm not following you on the catcher. My dealer quoted me $600 on a 2 bag catcher. Probably could get if for less if I was interested. Hustler's literature shows a catcher too.

Prob an '05, like mine. MSRP on the '06's is like 4695.00 or something like that.

Good luck man!:dancing:

I believe that you're referring to a non-powered catcher, like homeowner mowers. If you want a powered catcher (you may not), you'll need a larger mower.

did the dealer say specifically why you should pass on the Kohler?

The dealer did not say to pass on Kohlers, he said to avoid the Courage series. Command series was good. He said that the Courage was a lower cost, low quality engine for the consumer market and the warranty was lousy.

Everything looks real solid except for the transmissions. I had seal transmissions in my cub z-force and they were junk. I imagine Hustler put better trannys in than Cub did. The body and deck look real solid and with a Honda motor and 3 year warranty you can't go wrong for the price. If you can get one 3700 to 3900 that sounds like a good deal. Enjoy, I love cutting with a zero turn. It's fun cutting the grass(I was actually sad cutting the grass for the last time this fall) and you get it done so much faster. I cut a about 1.25 acres of grass with alot trees with 48" deck and I do it in less than 1 hrs. If they have a striper with the Hustler I would recomend you get it. I love the one I have on my mower. It makes the lawn look great.

the residential warranty is the same for the 16 hp honda and the 17hp kohler courage. the kohler has almost 4 lb/ft more torque than the honda.

Now I'm a little confused. My spec sheet shows the 16hp Honda cranking out more torque at lower RPM than the 17 Kohler. Specifically....
16hp Honda - 31.7 ft lbs @ 2500rpm
17hp Kohler - 27.9 ft lbs @ 2600rpm

???

the mini fasstrak spec sheet on Hustler's site is incorrect. pj and i have had this discussion ( http://www.lawnsite.com/showthread.php?t=135661 ). the Hustler factory says to go with the manufacturer's specs which show:

Kohler 17 hp 30.8 lb/ft
Honda 16 hp 26.9 lb/ft

I hope you are a short person. I am 6'3" and I tested a Fastrak today at a dealer while picking up some parts and it's small! My knees almost seemed like they were going to hit my chest. The mower looked of real nice quality other than it being made for a knome.
