This is S.G.K.'s 3rd year in opperation, and every spring my allergies kick up. They aren't horrible, but they are annoying. Do any of you guys have this problem? What do you all use to keep it under control? Thanks.

hi, i have always had allergy problems, havent had any problems for about a year, this past week i have been doing tons of cleanup jobs, esp leaves and high grass with tons of weeds. for the first time in ages they have been bothering me, not horrible but like u said annoying, the best thing i have ever done was started taking clariten d, not regular clariten but clariten d, also if needed nasacort works good, u want the spray not the liquid. also best thing i did was go to a ent.

It's about the same for me as it is for you guys..annoying and agrivating..but not severe. The amount of pollen here in my area is enough to choke an elephant. I'll wash my truck..then a couple days later is is yellowish-green again. When we mow, we only stir the stuff up even more.
As far as keeping my allergies in line, i take 1-2 Allegra a day. Of course, in order to get Allegra..you need a prescripiton from you doctor. Also, if i have a lot of nasal congestion, i'll use tylenol sinus to clear me out. Good luck with the allergies guys.

i took allergy shots every week for about two years. now i rarely get a sniffel from pollen or weeds. i used to get a headache everyday in the spring from pollen and weeds. now i can do clean ups and cut grass with no problem.

I have had problems ranging from aggravating to severve for as many years as I can remember. I tried the presciption stuff but it did not work that well for me. I have found that Nasalcrom works pretty well for me but you have to start using it for a couple of weeks before your problems start to be really effective. Also, I have found Benadryl to be very effective BUT, I only take it at half the regular rate so it does not make me sleepy, not a good thing when operating power equipment. Also I had a problem with sinus infections untill a doctor told me to always use a decongestant when using an antihistamine. I like the sudaphed 12 hour stuff.

Good luck!!

I've always had a problem with allergies but last year was the worse. I don't go to the Dr.unless I have too. It had been 11yrs since I'd beed to a dr. but I went and it really was a life saver. She put me on a product called Zyrtec. I tried all the others before she gave me this but it's costily but worth every penny. I take it all year long for everything.

Take claritin d in the morning, and you should be fine.

I have alergies... BAD.

Found best solution was to grow the business to the point where I work in an airconditioned office now...

I had probable the worst allergies of anyone I have every seen. I took allergy shots for 7 years or so, no not a single problem. I have not taken an allergy pill in years, they only mask the problem anyway, shots solve the problem.

My oldest son has been on them for a little over a year, he's like a new person.

SHOTS ALL THE WAY!

Hey linky, you want the posts above removed??

Take one zyrtec, one drop of patonal in each eye, and spray nasanex in nose and this should get you trough the day, which everyone is different. But the main thing is to take it an hour or so before you start in the morning. I also take shots once a week to try and build my system up to everything im allergic to. All these meds you have to have a prescription for, So goto your ent doctor, and save yourself alot of misery.

Another vote for Zyrtec here. Just started using it a few weeks ago, but works great so far.

I have done the shot thing and it provided temporary relief for several years. The best meds I was ever put on was called polaramine. The down side was that it has a tendency to raise blood pressure. I now take another prescription drug called Rynatan and it works fine.

Spring and fall are the worst times for me. The mold and leaf dust really tears me up in late fall. I have also found Benadril to help but seems to make me very tired.

Since this is your primary mode of generating income you'd best solve this quick. Nothing like being selfemployed and sick. I use a dust mask and take all the over the counter meds I can. Claritin just moved to nonperscription status w/i the last few years. Try that. Main thing is to rinse off everything each day (Hat, boots, gloves...). If you don't drink coffee you might start- it reduces the effects of allergies very well!

Cordially,

the ent was going to give me shots, but one they are a pain in the but, alot easier to take a clariten every morning or when its prime allergy season (right now) twice a day. ent said nasacort and clariten d would be just as usual for me as shots. i dont even need the nasacort any more, and infact for most of the summer didnt take the clariten.

I get allergies big time in the dust. Was out today and yesterday, and got them bad.

Hey Ray, Is there any side affects with the shot and how often do you get the shot?

I mow a couple of properties and this one doctors home and one day when he saw me about dead from sneezing he came out with a handful of Zyrtec. He just tells me to knock on the door at the dr's office and he'll have some waiting for me. I only need it in the spring and stockpile it in the offseason to give to one of my friends. By the way take Zyrtec about 2 weeks before you anticipate being around the allergen.

I like John's suggestion the best, I'm working on that myself. In the meantime, however, I'm using a respirator for the really BAD pollen days.

Ron,

They have a bee sting kit and all it consists of is epinephrine...same thing they give for trauma injury but in smaller dose. I have a friend that doesn't go anywhere without his kit.

COS, I took shots 2 a week for around 4 years I think, then was on a schedule of a shot every week or two. No real side effects, they injuct the allergin in you so there is a risk of having an allergic reaction. Going to the Dr. for shots was a PITA, however not having to buy or take allergy meds for the past 6-7 year or the rest of my life is MUCH better.

FineCut, the ER uses Epinephrine, Benadryl, and Solu-Medrol for allergic reactions, depends on the severity. Not sure why they would have given you Epi for a tramatic injury, serves no useful purpose?

Ray,

It's used to stimulate the heart after shock. I believe it helps to stabilize the heart. I may be mistaken about this part...but I believe it is sometimes injected directly into the heart?

Sorry Ray the link doesn't take you to the information that I just found and I don't have the time to figure why not.

You had a tramatic injury that was that severe?

I'm familuar with the actions of Epi and it is used during cardiac arrest. I've been a Paramedic for 15 years now.

No one does the Emergency show thing with direct inter cardiac injections anymore.

Ray,

You must of misread my post. I said,"...the same thing they give you for trauma injury but in a smaller dose." No, I have had no serious injury.

I also said,"I may be mistaken about this part...but I believe it is sometimes injected directly into your heart?" Didn't see that on a Emergency show I was told they did it as a last ditch effort to save a friends life.

I'm not a Paramedic nor a veterinarian but I have used epinephrine on several occasions in conjuction with antibiotics to treat horses with severe shipping fever.

I have bad grasses and some trees as well as dust...I tried all the fancy allegra and claritin D, but they gave me huge headaches (one of the side effects I found) and Rhinocort or Nasonex sprays...again expensive and not great.

I use the Walmart generic brand of ChlorTrimenton with decongestant and antihistamine. $1.50/month instead of $15+/month (with insurance!!).

I do have good results with Patanol eyedrops.
