i have just put in sod last year with a bad subsoil underneath. you can not pull the grass up so the roots are established, but the lawn is brown. i realize most grasses are still dormant, but this it is extremely brown. i was wondering if once the ground warms up and it gets some fertilizer will it green back up? what is the best thing i can do for this?

do a soil test and find out what your grass is telling you. If you are low in nitrogen, add nitrogen. If your ph is off the charts add lime.
Start with a soil test. They are not that expensive.
Otherwise, if your roots are intact and there is water. Than your grass should green up.

if it is Ky Bluegrass it is probably still dormant. the rye grass will green up faster than the bluegrass sod. if it has rooted in that is a good sign. I would go ahead with early spring fertilizer with pre-m.
