Hi all,
I have a few echo trimers that I want to tune up for the lawn season.
I purchased new plugs and air cleaners and I was wondering if there was anything Else I needed to do to get them back into shape. The carb areas are oily can I clean this area with soapy water? What do you do to get your trimmers ready for the season?
Thanks

I like to clean the shafts and heads with simple green (I know they just get dirty, but they look almost new again). You might want to take out the spark arrestor and check it or just throw it. Sometimes, brake cleaner is cheaper, and its the same. Depending how you put them away, pull the head off and make sure there isn't a bunch of crap in there.

You need to check and fill gear box at end-very very important. Generally we put new heads on each year. Every other year we replace the gas lines and the breather. Should take the starter rope mechanism off and blow it out to be sure it is clean. Check the plastic pawls for wear and lube the pivots only. Clean out the exhaust ports at least twice a year. Check the drive clutches for wear, our last about 6 months and if they wear out you will toast the engine. I am maintenance guy for our company and we run mainly Echo.

Is there a place to get a manual to do these things? Some of the items I can do but some I dont understand, gear box? plastic pawls? drive clutches?

You can go here; http://www.echo-usa.com/technical.asp And down-load a parts and operators manual that will show you the various parts and a description, Have your model and serial numbers handy.

Wow Thanks for the offer. Its good to see someone from Hudson here. Is that where most of your accounts are? I have them from Viva Villas and Sea Pines(Hudson) to moog (New Port Richey).
Well here is what I did. I Replaced The Plug And air cleaner, Removed The spark Arrester Screen, Cleaned The intake And exhaust with carb Cleaner, I gave everything a good cleaning And Relubed The bottom Of the Shaft. It seems that the weedwacker doesnt have the power it should. When i hit the trigger it increases RPM, but Slowly and finally hits top speed, It almost seems to sputter slightly as rpms increase and stops sputtering when top rpm is hit. What do you think Could Cause This.

Did you dissassemble and clean the carb with carb cleaner or just shoot through the hole? You may need to rebuild the carb.

You may have put too much lube in the shaft causing it to be hard to spin.

Right now, I've only got a few small accounts, still working on that between my regular job, and free time. on your trimmer, you may want to put a new fuel filter in too, and see how that works out for you.

Did you replace the fuel filter? And what about the carb adjustment have you made those. Rotate screw ccw to give it some GAS.

Depends on which Echo unit you have, I am not talking about idle adjustment I am talking about the jets adjustment. Echo went for awhile where they didn't have any adjustment but the last two years they do....

I've seen those fixed jet units, not too crazy about em. I like an adjustable Hi/Lo setting on all my machines.
