Looking to start a part time seal coating business, Want to know Whats the best equipment to start with and material to put down. Price on start up is an issue, so i would like to spend no more than $4,000 for equipment. I am located in NY.

The sealcoating business is more than just sealcoating. You must also offer hot-pour crack sealing. $4,000 will just barely scratch the surface. To apply hot-pour crack sealing material you must invest in a melter. These range from $600 to $1600 for starter units up to $40,000-60,000 for the larger commercial grade heavy-duty large capacity ones used for road and highway work. If you are just starting out, you can probably work out of buckets and drums before you invest in a sealcoating tank/spray unit. Don't waste your money on those trash pump plastic tote setups.

It is important to buy equipment to save you time and effort. This will enable you to do more jobs in a given period of time, thus increasing your sales and revenue. You have to buy edgers for cleaning cracks and edging the sides of the driveways, squeegees for applying sealer, brooms and brushes for cleaning, leaf blowers, power brooms, etc etc.

$4,000 will just barely get you started but a reasonably professional set-up will cost you a minimum of $20,000 to $30,000 for equipment not including a truck.

A good barebones starter unit for seal coating would be a 200-550 gallon hand agitated skid unit that goes for about $2,200 to $2,400. or 300 to 550 trailer for $5,000 to $5,200.

These types of units don't have hydraulic agitation and dont spray, but they do have a crank on the side for mixing the material and you can then transfer it into buckets for sealing. Don't waste your money on the trash pump $1,000 "business in a box" kits people on this forum talk about. Sealcoating takes a big investment and its not a get rich quick business, but if you play your cards right, make wises business moves, you can make a comfortable living doing it.

For around $6,000 you can geta 200 gallon hand agitated pickup spray system designed to fit in the back of a pick-up truck. you will need a heavy-duty pick up (Minimum F-350 or Chevy 3500) to handle the weight of one of these units full.

Good luck. and request a catalog at www.seal-rite.com for more information regarding these units and for pictures.
