need shrub trimming info

I am wanting to bid on some small commercials either this year if I can find any that are not already in an agreement, and for sure next year. Does anybody know of any good books or any other source for info regarding timing, techniques, etc. for ther common stuff here in Kansas? I am going to school next year to study turf and landscape managment, so I will pick this up then hopefully, but between now and then i would like to have a quick reference guide to look at and help identify/pruning and trimming techniques. Thanks in advance.
