Just wondering who trims first or who mows first.

I trimed first all of the time then the other day I was out of string and decided to be lazy and mow first then fill my spool. It cut my trimming time down to nothing. The only thing I noticed was there were some places of leaves and stuff the trimmer had kicked out. It only took a second to clean up.

any thoughts?

Mow first that way you know exactly what your mower will get and what it will miss.

after cutting a yard once i know what i won't be able to get and what i can, i would say it better to trim 1st then mow so that you don't have long grass blades laying on the yard if its high. i usually mow 1st though because i have all my yards on a 5 or 6 day cutting scheudule

I've tried it both ways. I'm with Joshua, if the trimming is going to leave long grass or debris on the yard, I would rather trim first.
But I think it is quicker to mow first most of the time.

Mow first, so you definitely know what to trim. If you trim more than you have to mow then then the grass is lower, cause no one is perfect when trimming.

Most grass that is left after trimming doesn't look near as bad once it's dried.

Mow first then trim. It just seems logical to me. Never done it anyother way I guess.

I have always mowed first. I find that there is much less trimming, and any taller grass on the turf can easily be dispersed into the lawn while blowing.

When I worked by myself, I would trim first on new acounts that looked like they hadn't been trimmed in ages or were just over grown. On weekly mowings, I would mow first and then trim usually. Now that I have help, we run to mowers and one trimming, so it is all done at the same time. We normally have our helper go around the houses and borders so it is less trimming to do.

It all depended on the dampness of the grass when I did it all myself. If there was a lot of dew on the first lawn, I would usually trim first just to let the grass dry a bit. If I had 2 or 3 next to each other, I trimmed them all first, then the grass was much dryer to mow.

noticed today that with the things the trees drop in the spring it was benificial to blow all that stuff onto the turf before mowing

Mow 1st. With thick bermuda or zoysia its impossible to trim to the exact height without cutting first.

Always mow first, otherwise, you are trimming more than is really necessary. Yes, you always nd up trimming just a LEEtle bit wider than you normally would have. If you don't, than you are leaving something that has to be trimmed again, or you are taking MUCH more tome trying to catch all the missed trimming with the mower. Even if the grass is really long and overgrown, you can cut first, trim, then double cut. If you are training someone, or have someone relatively new, this esPECially pertains, because the person will not be able to better identify what the particular mower can and cannot do. The applies to tree mounds and other terrain changes. I understand the principle behind trimming first, as it gets all the long trimming out into the lawn area for the mower to cut, and it gets the trimming itself out of the waw. However, it takes up more work, all around, than what is necessary.

I'm with Eric on this one. If it is my weekly customers, I mow first then trim because the trimming goes easy.
But, if I am adding someone to my schedule that has taller grass or leaves stuck in the edges I trim first to throw all of the leaves and the grass out into the lawn to be mowed up. But mowing first is definately much easier and quicker.

Mow, trim, edge, blow....But sometimes its a nice change to trim 1st.

I have a friend that always trims first, then blows everything onto the lawn and then bags everything. Looks really nice, but I only do this with some of my accounts, particularly the manicured St. Augustine and Centipede yards. On the bigger yards with mixed grasses and weeds I mow first, then trim, and then blow the remaining trimmings out of sight, or pick them up. If I bagged all my accounts it would take a lot more time and would be a lot less productive.

Oh yeah, that's right. Eric hit it square. I trim first if I pick up a new account that is high. That way, the clippings can either be shredded or thrown in the grass catcher.

Depends.

New yards get trimmed first.
Small yards I cut while Matt trims.

Other yards we both cut. Matt will finish a little earlier and save me a little extra to cut while he trims, then I blow.

edge, trim, mow. after i get used to the property i know exactly where the mower can get . mowing last leaves a cleaner finish i think
