i was wondering what do you guys give the customer at an estimate for landscaping. I also was wondering how many of you guys do the design your self or hire it to some one else?

When you meet with the customer for the first time it should be an information gathering session. I'm assuming this is for some type of landscape planting or construction. Ask the client what they want to do, their expectations. When do they want the work done, do they have a budget? If possible throw out some ideas to get their opinion. This can cut down on revisions after you present a plan. I think it makes you look better when they know that you are taking the time to properly plan out and estimate the job for them.
If they just want a price for mulching, bed edging, pruning, etc you could probably do that on site. (Put it in writing if they are a new client)
We design in house, either the architect/sales person does it or they give info and base map to design support staff to produce a landscape plan
