I do sometimes. If i'm doing a small quantity, less than a yard, I use bagged. It really doesn't cost THAT much more down here than "by the scoop".

Bagged mulch is much easier to spread and handle if you are doing a small mulching job <2 yards.

I use it if the job is small enough. However, there is a HUGE color difference in the bag and the dumped. I didn't notice until I used a mixture of both one day.

As far as color, each brand is a little different. Scott's has some out that is garanteed to never fade out. I don't know if holds up to their claim. I prefer to use the scoop method mostly, but I ahve had to use bagged on a very large job that had a rough terrain. The entire place was up and down. No way to push a wheel barrel over the area. The bags helped that time. Bags-- no shoveling. Scoop-- cheaper.

I use bagged mulch because I can carry more. A pallet of bagged mulch is about 5.5 yards.

dang... the price of bagged just isn't worth it and neither is anything under 2 yards really... but if they want to pay 55 for a cubic yard or the 35-dollar minimum when that takes effect for even less... Otherwise it's just more mickey mouse stuff.

Yeah I've had calls to spread several cubic feet of mulch... I'm sitting here wondering if I should take my car?

One bag is 2-3 dollars, and it takes 14 bags for 1 yard (assuming 1 yard = 3x3x3 = 27 cubic feet / 2 cu.ft/bag = 14), meanwhile a yard costs me anywhere from 12 to 22 dollars, depending on quality (designer mulch is $22, premium 18, fiber 12), a cubic yard of bagged mulch is way over 30 dollars, higher than my most expensive mulch (designer).

I only buy a bag of mulch if I completely forgot to put mulch down in some real small area, and then color-matching is such a pain.

That and I am certain scooped mulch spreads much faster via 10-tine pitchfork and barrow with a landscaper's rake.
