I might be able to pick up a case 1845c that needs some TLC (to be determined when I get a closer look) for $1k. It has 3300 hours on it.

This is just to be used at my place, not for commercial work.

Good deal or money pit?

Depends on what it needs. If it operational now then good deal. If not check what it needs, see how much it will cost and then make a decision.

3300 hours is just tickling those 3.9 cummins thats in that. as far as the rest of it goes, they are easy to work on, easy to get parts for. the whole cab slides forward, everything is easy to get at, waaaayyyy easier than any bobcat. weak links are stub axles can break, and drive chains, neither is hard to do. for $1000, though...be careful. sounds too cheap. they were about 19,500 new, in 1990.

The owner is a local landscaper, he used it for his work.

He says that its making a weird noise, and he is going to replace it with a newer one.

I haven't heard the noise yet, but I wouldn't buy it if it was a bearing knock or anything like that.

I would jump on it for a grand. Even if it needed a lot of work you could still come out good on it. The resale on the 1845C machines amazes me. You could buy for a grand and double your money (or more) just parting it out.

Dirty Water,

Did you pickup the machine? If not, let me know, and I'll be there this weekend!

I'm still contemplating it. I need to meet with the guy and give it a closer look, as well as negatiote prices with him. Everything I've heard about it so far was from a 3rd party (I saw the skid sitting at a job, stopped and talked to the guy there).

However, I'll let you know Kiaser.

I would run the pin number with CASE. It has to be "hot" at that price. If it checks out legally and it loads on a trailer under its own power I would grab it.
