I was just wondering if anyone would happen to know why, there are dead patches of grass in a lawn that I am going to be mowing. Some of the grass is nice and green and then there are spots of dead grass ranging in different sizes of spots. Please help if you have any ideas, or if one of you might have had this kind of problem also.

Thanks

Female dogs wreak havoc on lawns. They may be man's best friend but not so great for lawns.

Dead or dormant?

Did you ask the owner if he tried to use any chemicals?

The dog is a possibility. So are the grubs/insects. Pull at the dead turf. Dig in it. See what you find.

If the spots are big, I'd say grubs.

If its a female dog tell the customer to put a couple of tablespoons of tomato juice in the dogs food. The dogs love it. My wife was told this from a friend who swears by it. We tried it and it seems to work. We have two female dogs.

female dog, that is.

second-best guess: Zoysia grass.
Here's not the best close-up, but it's pretty accurate: http://www.donnan.com/images/ZoysiaBrown.jpg

It could be dog piss, dead patches from grubs. If the dead turf can pull up easy ,it aint dorment warm season zoysia. Show a picture if possible.

I figured that someone would say something about my best friend there (photo of beagle). She's killer on the lawn, but we are 100% rabbit free!
