I'm looking for a good book for a beginner trying to learn about design and construction for (mainly) turf irrigation. I know some basics about construction, but I'd like to expand my knowledge on that and the design aspect of the business.

Anyone reccomend any good reading?

GO TO HUNTERS, RAINBIRD OR CENTURY RAIN AID , web sites they have a lot of useful information for what you need.

Dittos to the web sites. I've been looking for a wind speed switch for my personal irrigation system and I found one on the Hunter site.

That is a fantastic site.

I do find his pump calculations a bit conservative, but better safe than sorry in that regard. Especially if you want to shower while watering the yard.

Hardly anyone around here (including the Century Rainaid guys) match the nozzles to the rotor arcs...e.g. a full circle rotor needs to spray 4 times the water a 1/4 circle rotor does since it is covering 4 times the area. Otherwise the watering is not even but the best benefit comes when grouping zones. You can get a lot more heads on a zone if some are 1/2 or 1/4 circle.
