I don't worry it will drive you crazy and give you ulcers.
They will come, they always do, you just need to have confidence and if there not coming fast enough go out and get some new customers

I am a newbie but noticed I get calls on the weekend when it is warm and sunny. Cold and rainy...no calls.

I get calls thru-out the season. In the spring and fall for clean-ups, spring mowing, and in the winter for snow removal. I don't really have a specific time at this point.

I usually get them starting now, and continue throughout summer, but this month is slow due to rain,,

we just started getting a lot of calls but we had near 2 inches of snow this morning, we are getting over 100 calls per week now form old and new customers. It depends on how you advertise and your customer base. We having been working 10 days straight now, im ready for a break lol.

please send us some rain!!!! it's like the dustbowl here right now.

in reply to the question, we get some calls year round but the majority seem to come as it begins to warm up and continue steadily through august or so.

Yep here too, But then again I like those people, they are typically desperate.

And I get to charge huge dump fees and tons for the first few mows to get it under control.

No more than 1/3rd blade removal every 3 days. Its our policy      :usflag:

Seriously though, they do tend to bring in a good sum on the first cut. If not they can call elsewhere.

BTW back on topic, Our phone has not stopped since about February 1st, I do about 5 new estimates every day. Since Feb 15th we have added 47 new clients and over 100 since last fall.

some are old some are new, we dont do flyers never ahve. We have a bulk permit, so if we advertise flyers they go thru the postoffice 2 pages and a buisiness card. the envelopes are bulletes on the front with all our services on the left side of front of envelope, cutting, aerating, dethatching , topdressing , overseeding, our last mailing (big) was 25,000 letters locally, that landed 200-400 calls per week, we added another line for that . this year we targets 2 areas 2500 flyers mailed out, plus out 2 yellow pages and local paper. i have trouble keeping up til the 15th , my wife quits her job then and runs a 3rd crew. Its all in the way you market, flyers is not so great seeing as every kid on the block stuffs them in also, yo uhave to try differnt avenues and find one that works best for you.

beginning and the end of the season...unless yer in the south...but with snow up here we have a rush during spring and a rush during fall...summer is slower...but that's when people do patio and walkways...in massachusetts :) I make sure I'm very visible in my good neighborhoods...always got a truck or sign kicking around in the spring especially!!!!!!! good luck!!! get some decent flyers made up with some pull tabs at the bottom so people can grab yer name and #...post at any pizza shop etc... in any town yer willing to work in...just a couple cheap ways when just starting out!! keep a smile on yer face and look approachable when working, I've had numerous people drive up to me and ask for an estimate!!!

in virginia, the phone rings year-round but from 1.april until end of june is the strongest for me.

but it's dry as a rice fart, so the phone rings just not like it usually does.

that and i've raised my prices once and for all, $35 minimum, $60 / hour and getting it but it also has an effect. It will likely be a slower year for me but I can't do the lowballing again, I just can't ... I'll sit at home doing nothing before I get lowballed, I'd rather quote too high at this point (I even got one or two of these estimates, surprise)...

Things will improve, it just takes time, it always does.
Just the way it is, in many ways.
Put out more advertising, that helps.

LOL stuff:
Go wash and wax your car, truck and trailer.
I did it last year, then it rained.
The more time you spend and the shinier it is, the higher the chances of rain to mess it back up.
If the truck and car is dirty, it might or might not rain, but a shiny car? Watch out!
I am not doing it this year, it's your turn LOL
