I am looking into a new trimmer(straight shaft)to use as my primary trimmer. My Ryobi( ahah, no laughing)curved shaft is starting to cause backache. I'm 6'4 and need something comfortable and have sampled several. The echos have the most comfortable grip and seem to feel well for upright trimming. Any other opinions? Also, when you trim do you have better results trimming in the direction of the rotation of the string or the opposite direction?

I have a few Echo 2400's and have not had a problem with them. i do perfer the Stihl though. i have 5 FS 80 and they have held up great. i think that the stihl's have some more power. i also have a Tanaka and it is fairly good to.

I had a 2100 and I hated it. took it back. it was very smooth running and powerful though. I probably should have tried it without the guard. it seems that everyone else does. the fact that you are so tall may make the 2100 work for you because the shaft seemed really long to me.
in any event, you'd probably be happer with the 2400 because of more power, which is everything in this business.

Get the SRM 3100- lighter, more powerful, bigger gas tank, great tool.
Sorry, but the srm-3100 is a much heavier unit. The srm-2601 or its new replacement(sorry don't know that number) is a lighter unit than the 2100 or 2400. For commercial use don't even look at the 2100 for your main unit. You will quickly want more power. I used to work for an equip. co. that sold Echo and we had problems with the 2100 when the commercial guys bought them, it was just too much to ask of that unit.

I have the 2100 and think it is great, I can edge concrete sidewalks, and do the other trimming jobs with ease. It is three yrs old and I would get another one, mabey a bigger one with more power but I haven`t had any problems with mine.I also have a shindawia T-260 andI think it is a good trimmer too.

The Echo 2100 and 2400 are basicly their cheap models and most of the guys around here seem to have trouble with them. Go for the 2601. I've had a 2501 (the model the 2601 replaced) since 92 and it still runs great and strong.
We run the echo 2601 pretty good trimmers with decent life......
Id go with the 2601 there lightweight 11.5-LBs State of the art 25.4cc heavyduty commercial engine. Marks Mowing Service

I don't know what I was thinking, I meant the 2601. That's the way to go.

the trimmer that replaced the srm-2601 is now a srm-260 or srm-260s, the 260 is a flex shaft and th 260s is a solid shaft, both are great trimmers. I just bought a srm-260 and love it.

We have 7 SRM 2100 units we use daily from Mid May til Late November. Last year, only one gave us some problems, the 6 yr. old one..figures. Other than that, I'd buy another 2100 in a heart beat. We use them in cemeteries, residential, commercial, and codominiums, and change one over for limited brush work with saw blade and harness.

Spend the extra and get the 260 (2601) I have three and love them. I'm about six feet tall and like the angle better on the ECHOs. also the anti vibration on the 260s is much better than the 2100 and the 2400. You won't regret it.

I went from a Ryobi to a srm 2100. The 2100 is worlds better. Mine is 4 years old and very abused (i ranover it) and works great. If it ever dies i will buy a more powerful Shindaiwa. For the money i think that its a good trimmer but you should consider a more heavy duty model.

I just got a kawasaki 26cc stolen out of my trailer last week and went down to purchase the srm2400 for a replacement but found out the stihl was the same price and way more powerful{and louder which is a bummer} but for the money stihl is better in the long run 269$ here.
I have had good luck with echo though.

We have 4 2100 Echo trimmers they are nice enough, Ample power for light to medium duty trimming. They will run all day every day for quite a number of years. With few troubles. We tried the 2400 and did not care for it. The choke was a pull type. Hard to get a hold of with gloves or in rainy weather. We now have 3 of the 2601 trimmers and like them very much (more power for heavey trimming). But when we need power I have a 34cc redmax. Way to much for normal everyday trimming.

I have two smr 2400's and i think there ok but not the best, I also use shindawia t270's and I kinda like them better. My echos have taken a betting in the last 2 years though, somebody ran striaght gas through one of them, they have fallen of the truck, been run over buy mowers, one even got crushed between the truck and trailer (stupid me deciided to mount the trimmer rack on the front of the gas rack and some genuis employee jackknifed the trailer and crushed the trimmer, I moved the rack the next day) but there still going. So I guess thier ok but I think shidawia and redmax are better.

I purchased a shindaiwa t 230 on monday. I have mixed feelings about it. I think that i just need to get used to it. It has good power and seems to turn alot more rpm's than my echo.

We used echo products for a few years and they just didn't hold up well. It seemed I was replacing 1 or 2 every year. Went with the Stihl and liked it but it was a little heavy. Have been using Shindawa for the last 3 years and they work well and seem to last. My philosophy on weed whackers, hand blowers and hand mowers are that they are throw away items. What I mean is that when they wear out, we buy new. Don't throw money into something that for a little more you can get a new one. Time is money.

i would seriously consider buying something of better quality.i sold my echo last year because i thought it was junk.Shindawa is having a sale on now you can get one for $250.00 .this is all i use, they are light, very durable and i have not had a problem with them to date.
