I've had both Echo and Stihl along with a few others. Have had the best luck with Stihl, thus that would get my recomendation.

I have run Echo, Stihl & Maruyama, Echo is OK Stihl is better, my next trimmer will be a RedMax.

Stihl all the way. Call me biased but after four years the fs 85s are still going strong.

Although I don't have much experience, I'll take my stihl over the shindaiwas and echos I've used any day.

I have had excellent - excellent use with Echo. They last for years and years, and they are so easy to work with...like changing line and such.

I just switch over from echo to redmax and will not be going back. I bought two stihls last year to try out and they are nice but the redmax is better.

I have had shindaiwa and now have a brand new stihl edger and for trimmers....TANAKA ALL THE WAY! Dealers can be hard to find, I have bought mine off of the internet and had it shipped. Hey, they are super light weight, powerful and possibly the most reliable thing i own. I think most guys go with the other brands because their dealers dont carry Tanaka and then you will the garbage that parts are hard to find. You can get parts shipped with a few days. But.... the only parts i have ever put in are preventative. Go with tanaka, you wont regret it.
