just a quick note. my father owns two mobils and today he heard that shell and chevron warned their dealers in California to order the $3. symbols for the price signs. they expect gas to go to at least $3.00 a gallon. that means gas in the midwest and NE may go to around $2.50. there is a article in the USA today about it.

How do they expect single mothers and retired folks on a strict budget to make it?
Sometimes people live with very little extra.. don't they?

Most of the poor retired folks only take the Buick Century out once a week on tuesday (5% off grocery day) might have to spend an extra dollar.
Most of the rich retired folks that have 200k 38ft fuel oil burning mothorhomes with a $25k suv as a dinghy have the cash and will just keep on truckin.

My mother was complaining yesterday about gas prices...her 96 Buick has a whopping 9,000 miles on the odo. Wasnt in the mood to mention to her that a buck a gallon increase equates about a buck a week lol...

I heard on the news us poor Chicago guys are paying more per gallon here than anywhere in the USA. Average price for 87 octane is $2.04 a gallon. :(

Diesel for the moment is $1.41 here. Gas is $1.57.

If it goes to 2.00$ here I guess I will have to add a gas surcharge. Right now we are around 1.57 a gal for 87 octane.

W says in todays paper he cant do anything about the rise in gas prices. And he says americans should not change their lifestyles and conservation will not do any good. This is exactly what the whitehouse is saying. So keep buying those SUVs and in doing so help big oils profits and keep W happy. W energy plan coming out is longterm and if any of us are still in business we might live to see it. He hypes his tax cut but high gas price will outweigh ANY tax cut we might get

Gas 1.41 gal
In my little corner of the world.
We're lucky, Virginia has always seemed to have lower fuel costs than other places...But it's made up in vehicle taxes and tag fees.

I too, am concerned about the comments and actions of this administration so far.
They are bungling everything, sending the wrong signals. High fuel prices and W in charge....coincidence?

I think with a spelling error I have just created a word.
In the future I will refer to 38 ft motorhomes as
"Motherhomes".

Geo,
Last week I fueled up in Lynchburg at a Wilco (Wards Rd).
I remembered wrong, I thought the gas was 10 cents higher than the diesel. I rarely get gas in Lynchburg (its 20 miles north), but had to take the Toro back for dealer adjustment saturday.
The diesel is 1.31 and the gas is 1.49 per gallon(lowest oct)
I know who is going to be making more than all of us this year.

Anyone who goes out of business due to a rise in gas prices should be out of business because they do not know how to run one.
Gas like all other expenses in business including overhead, taxes labor et al need to be passed along to clients through your prices. You and your competition are almost certainly paying the same amount of money per gallon of gas. You have two choices, you can reduce your profits by absorbing this cost or you can notify your clients of a price increase due to the situation. Personally I find it much easier to try to increase prices and explaining its due to the price of gas going up. Very easy for a client to see this everytime they fill up there own vehicle and justifies it in there mind.
Much harder to get a client to understand a cost increase due to higher workers comp rates, increased labor costs, or some other innocous thing that they cant see or understand. Those increases just look like your trying to get more money out of their pocket.
Deal with it as a professional and you will keep your clients and your profit margins intact.

If W can convince the damn tree hugging liberals that drilling is Alaska is better than paying for it from the other side of the ocean, prices will come down. It'll take some time. But no, they want to save everything. The drilling area is the size of Dulles airport. Thats not too much and there isn't much up there in that area anyway.

Still able to get 87 in Charlotte for 1.47. It was 1.43 last Friday. I don't mow in Charlotte but work full-time there and I get all my gas there. It's 1.58 here in the Salisbury area.

Their prices dropped to .82 a gallon.

Don't move to Ohio if you wan to save $$;
last week I paid 1.47 for 87 oct. & by thurs. it was up to 1.85!!!!!
92 octane was 2.02 a gal., & this week 87 is holding at 1.75.
It ain't even summer yet, you #&*&@#%! arabs!
Diesel just went up to 1.52; been 1.45 to 1.49 all season so far.
We need to go visit Homer & fill up a tanker truck!
One way I'm fighting back is I have a commodity futures option on unleaded gas, so if & when it goes up I can recoup some of that expense.

What good is drilling for oil in alaska going to do? Get real, there is no gas shortgage. There is only a higher demand for it and higher demand means they jack up prices. They say even if the drill more wells there it will only be enough for 15 years at the most and primarily just help the west coast. OPEC didnt even raise there prices at the last meeting. This gouging is home grown and there is no one to put the breaks on it. One refinery catches fire and boom prices shoot way up or for no reason at all.

Hey Fellas,
I received the following email from my uncle out in Marysville, CA early last month. Makes for an interesting idea. If only people would realize their power in numbers. Anyway have a look. Something to think about this summer.
Fw: GASOLINE PRICES!!!!!!!!
>
>THE FOLLOWING WAS SENT BY AN ECONOMIST WITHIN THE FUEL INDUSTRY.
>ANOTHER ECONOMICS PROFESSOR AT CAL REITERATED THE SAME LAST WEEK.
>
>I got this from a reliable source & the website listed is legit.
>We heard today from a man who is very savvy about the economy, namely,
>Clark
>Howard, and he says that the gas prices are going to start going up again
>and will be high this summer-$2 and up. We need to do whatever we can, and
>do it NOW!!!!

>Gasoline Prices This makes more sense than the don't buy gas on a certain
>day routine that was going around last year Gasoline Prices! Whoever
>started this has a good point. By now, you're probably thinking gasoline
>priced at about $1.49 is cheap. Me too, as it is now $1.58 for regular
>unleaded! Now that the oil companies and the OPEC nations have conditioned
>us to think that the cost of a gallon of gas is CHEAP at less than $1.50,
>we
>need to try an aggressive response. With the price of gasoline going up
>more each day, we consumers need to take ACTION! The only way we are going
>to see the price of gas come down is if we don't buy it. But, (as the gas
>companies know full well, and are counting on), that's not really a
>practical option since we all have come to rely on our cars. But we CAN
>have an impact on gas prices if we all act together.
>
>Here's the idea: For the rest of this year, don't purchase gasoline from
>the
>two biggest companies (which now are one), namely EXXON and MOBIL.
>
>You see, if they are not selling, they should be inclined, (i.e.,
>"forced"),
>to reduce their prices. And, because of their size, and hence market
>share,
>if they reduce their prices the other companies will too. (They would HAVE
>no choice!). Isn't that a "juicy" prospect? But to have an impact, we
>need
>to reach literally millions of users. But it's doable! I am sending this
>note to 42 people. If each of you send it to at least 10 more ...and those

>the sixth iteration, we will have reached over one million consumers.

Yeah, right. Your memory isn't very good is it? Gas went up around the country a year and a half ago. The trend started a while before ole George got his new job. Besides, there isn't a thing that he can do to help. Notice your grocery bill lately? It's not just gas, and it's been in the works for a long time. It's really a shame that Bush will get the blame for this.

But W even is encouraging high prices by his comments. W "sawwy america nothing we can do about the high price of gas but dig more holes so you can use more. No need to conserve. No need to change your lifestyle. No need to stop taking that big bus of a SUV that most women can barely drive to the grocery store to pick up a can of beanie weenies"
The W administration has had to tone down there comments so many time you cant count them all. He in effect has given the greenlight for US companies to jack the prices up and for car companies to keep making these gas guzzleing tanks.
When clinton was in office the prices jumped up in July as they usually do. With W they been up and will never come down.

Charles is right it's not OPEC this time. I've been watching crude oil prices for years and this increase is totally unjustified. Crude oil is lower now than a month ago. When prices get high enough and the public starts crying enough, then W will get what he wants and that's to drill anywhere at anytime. It will take 5-10 years before we would see any oil from new drilling in Alaska in the new remote areas that they want. From what I hear Cheney owns 38% of some oil company so he doesn't care if it hits $3.00/gal. The paper quoted Tues. that W would not step-in in anyway no matter what the price went to. That was info from the Whitehouse spokesperson not hear-say. Just today an article in the paper said that we may peak out soon on the price, that some refineries have begun to catch up. They got us were they want us. My god Exxon made a profit of 5.05 billion last quarter but that was not the record. Remember the high heating oil prices of this past winter well Exxon made 5.1 billion that was the record. They make billions while some people can't afford heat for their children. I guess most people have forgotten what happened in the 70's with gas and then about 10 years later they finally admit there was never a gas shortage at all. Boy was that shocking news, LOL. I'm hoping that all this will bring out some entrepneurs with some imagination and get some new ideas into the auto industry. I like the idea of the hybrids that are coming out now. I'd like to see diesels in smaller trucks and cars. VW has a Jetta with a diesel that gets 50mpg and i know guy that has one and he said you can't hardly tell it from the gas as far as power. Don't get me started.LOL
