How to? lay brick edging around landscape

Any tips on laying antique brick as landscape edging?

What did you use as a base to lay the brick, lay it directly on the ground or create a mortar wall. I plan on mortaring the joints b/t the bricks

How are you going to lay it? Upright as a soldier course or horizontal. Either way if you are going to mortar the joints it should be on a firm base or laid preferably in concrete to restrict movement and keep your mortar joints intact.
