I thought it would be intersting to find out what other people do to create an income and enjoy themselves . I used to be a drywall contractor but got out because its too dusty and didnt want to deal with a three way partnership. Its my first year doing lawn care as a business for myself and i will find out this year if its going to be worth it. How bout you.<br>
If I have free time I work in a fabrication shop. Used to be supervisor in one of the shops I part-time for now and worked in the other one on and off for years. The abiliity to build or repair my own equipment is pretty damn handy more than once

I too am a firefighter, work 24 on and 48 off like the other guys about 9 - 11 days per month. Havee to do somthing to make some good money, the town I work for is 20% under the state average for wages. 8 years on and a whopping $6.30 per hour and no overtime till 56 hours per week. And yes by the way I am trying to shame them they could care less about us they just want warm bodies, not professionals.

Full time job for me too. No time or energy for anything else. Just 45 days down time in the winter. And I need that to recover for the next year.

I have not worked for wages since 1988.<br>My season starts in March as soon as the<br>snow melts and I work until Thanksgiving.<p>During the early winter (Thanksgiving to Christmas)I harass large industiral accounts<br>and school districts for new business next year.<p>I don't have a wife or kids (I got a divorce about 5 years ago)and I live in a rented duplex that the rent is $300/month.<br>My truck is a 1992 c1500 and my car is a<br>1981 Chrysler full size that one of my old<br>senior citizen customers sold it to me for<br>mowing her grass ($20 mow job) three times.<br>She bought it brand new and I got it when it<br>had only 65,000 miles.<p>This year I plan to spend the entire month<br>of January living on my trailerable sailboat<br>in the Fla Keys.<p>It does not cost me much more to live on the "hook" in FLA bay vs. being traped in<br>the house in PA for the month of January.<p>If I wanted a lousy two weeks vacation a<br>year I would get a "real" job. <br>

Great to have a post that i posted and so many responses. It is great to find out about everyone. I have been so busy doing spring cleanups and estimating that i dont find enough time to get back on the forum so i guess i could also say that i am all lawn care full time from now on and i dont have enough time to do anything else. But i love it and will do this for a while.<p>It is nice to hear from such a wide group of people.<br>

One more firefighter to the list. 21 years of full time firefighting and 11 years in business. The last 5 years of lawn care have been full time with all the headaches that comes with full time employees. Thank God for my wife!!!

I'm a Mechanic for America West Airlines. Seven years seniority, and would have a very hard time giving up the ability to fly at no cost to me.<p>Vic
Yo, Vic. Welcome to the ranks. I also work full time as an A&P. 16 yrs., 14 w/USA. I myself am fed up with the unions and all the b.s. that has come along with the once high paying, prestigious career. Benefits just aren't what they used to be and fares have gotten so cheap anyone can fly now. Try to non-rev. w/a family of four. NOT! <br>I'm trying to get this biz. to the point I can sing that 'ol Jhonny Paycheck classic "Take This Job and Shove It!"<br>Welcome and much good luck to you!

Guys, I've been in this business full time since 1987 and i've made some decent money. I do full time lawn care with some pesticide applications(licensed in Mo. and Il.) I have 3 to 4 seasonal employees who are very dependable, and whom I pay a decent wage($10/hr) I manage to make enough during the summer season to tide me over to the next season. My wife works and makes around 35,000, but I realistically bring home over $7,000/month for 7 months, so I can relax for five months and not have to worry about snow or the other winter worries.

I work as a baby sitter down at the county jail. Worked for a small maintenance company out of high school 10 years ago and just started my own last fall. Hoping next year to get enough customers so I can take a half time job at the jail.

I work full time in a factory at nite. Cut grass and design and install landscapes during the day. Going to landscape desgin school to get my degree. I don't have time for much else. Glad my kids are at the age where they are not at home much anymore. On the go all the time. I see the wife in the mornings for awhile and in the evenings for a couple hours. In eight years I can retire and will only be 48. That's when I'll go full time. I can't really give up my retirement benifits by quiting now. Well that's my story. Mowman
I've been doing lawn care full ime since 1993. I 've got two crews and we work year round. You dont have to worry much about snow in San Antonio, but it does get hotter than hell in Aug. I also play in a band. Dont make much money with that but it sure is fun to crank up the amp and drink some beers on the weekends.
