What is that main differences between dethatching and Aeration? When i am talking about dethatching i mean the steel rake attachment that u can get mounted in front of the mower or pull behind. Also when you dethatch a lawn do you recommend picking up the lose grass clipping up with a sweeper?

I actually do both. Thatching is to get rid of some of the clippings in the yard and pretty much wake up the yard after the frost. Aeration does the same thing but in a different way it reduces the clippings in the yard and pulls out plugs from the yard to get air into the yard and let it breath better. I usually thatch as soon as I can after the snow has showing signs it won't snow anymore then a couple of weeks later I go by and aerate. I also aerate in the fall to like the last mowing of the season. I hope this helps you out!
