I have been having a terrible time sleeping. As soon as I lay down I start thinking about what work I have to do in the morning. I start rethinking everything I did or said through out the day. My mind just wont stop. I work hard all day, come home tired but can't sleep. I guess I'm still to new. I'm excited every day.

In Texas we have a solution to that. BEER. Haha, I usually drink one a night to take th edge off the day. Ol Milwaukee's Best is my best friend.

This is a good thing..I run all my work and future prospective jobs through my head too..helps keep things in line up there and plan for the next day..but you must put a limit on yourself..15 min of thinking things through then do a mind and body relaxation thing....
at this time mine is..I am building a cedar lod cabin built up on 6 Cedar trees cut to make a treehouse cabin..in a beautifull mountain meadow with a clear trout stream way down the hill flowing in front...
I envision and plan this dream cabin as a relaxation tecnique and it helps me let go of the day. There is one where you can envision a big evrgreen tree in your head..each branch holds a problem or worry in your life you see the wind blowing the branches of the tree the branches releasing the problems and worries on by one tell they are gone.
Also telling the back of your eyes to relax and all the muscles tha hold your eyes in and around your face...
You can also start telling one toe at a time to relax..release..let go with your mind and work your way up your body slowly one part at a time..one side at a time......that works good too.

I got real sleepy all of a sudden after reading your post sheshovel. I keep wanting to call you shedevil for some reason but I'm new, I'll get used to names eventually. Anyways, I'm gonna drink my nightly beer and tell my eyes to relax.

Practice meditation.

Meditation is exercise for the mind, you exercise your ability to focus, the result is your mind will wonder less.

Build a Web site for your business in the hours after you get home, that will help wear your mind out :)
Don't just think about doing it, but do it.

Then your mind is tired every day and in a year or so it will not bother you so much and maybe you even have a cool web site for your business as a bonus to the whole thing.

I would rather be worrying about work than anything else. My mind is always racing on how to do things better. It's life!

Why in the world would he need medication for something as normal and natural as thinking about work?Heck that's all I thought about for my first 6 years!

Sounds like an anxiety problem. I go in phases where I have high anxiety (especially after i quit smoking). Beer really does do the trick... Miller Lite for me. I'd recommend against meds cuz they screw with your head to much and will probably become addicting. I popped a couple smoothies (pain killers) every now and then but was always tired as hell the next day. I'm outa beer so I gotta drink wine tonight.

I found that Ambien really helped me. I feel well rested and great in the morning. The only thing is, is that now I am no longer allowed in my local Coney Island because they say I kept showing up in my underwear.

I'm the same way. I will actually fall asleep and dream about work, which ends up waking me up.

You are not alone! Im just in the process of building up my new business, hoping to go fulltime next spring....if not sooner. I have the same problem. Just started taking Tylenol Simply Sleep last night. Seem to help some, took two more about an hour ago, and I am still here with ya'll. I know what you are going through, you just cant shut it off, and I also get achey legs real bad. I think its all related to anxiety, I am just about ready to go to the doctors for some good meds.

I think about work a lot too. I hope that I'll worry less when I'm a little more established, but then I suppose I'll just have different worries. There's a reason not everybody goes on their own and tries to make their living, and part of it is job security and a guaranteed paycheck. Of course, unless you're in a union, you probably won't get that at a job anyway.

If your worrying that much it seems like your are working to much or to hard you need to hire some employee's to take some of the wait off.We started last year in late June but we only got a few customers 5 I think but we dumped al;l but 1 to much hassle and headaches from the other 4 but we started putting out doorknob hangers 12 days ago so far around 1100 and we have picked up 20 customers and one is a mortgage company and we will be cutting their foreclosed homes so thats quite a few houses but we have 2 employee's ones in school still, the other one is not, the one in school will help out on weekends and in the summer and I feel fine now that I'm not the only one having to deal with all the propeties by myself. GET an Employee you'll feel much better:weightlifter:

I think that it is normal, especially just starting out. My first year, I did the same thing. Always thinking about work before bed. What did that day, or forget to do, or who do I need to call, or what needs done tomorrow, everything. As the season goes on and you become more familiar with what's going on and get a system in place, you will sleep easier. But, I still think about work all the time, which is good, because being self-employed is great, and you are not enthusiastic about it then maybe you should be doing something else. BUT, it does not interfere with my sleep anymore, I have learned how to stop and relax. It may take a while but you will calm down eventually. Medication is not the answer unless it is really serious and you haven't slept for days or something like that. Some people think there is a pill for everything. You can relax without drugs or alchohol. Drinking a beer or whatever is a good thing:drinkup: But don't start using it as "medication" or you WILL end up an alcoholic before you know it. Start waking up earlier, so you are sleepy when it is bedtime. Also something that did help me, even if it sounds silly, is juice. I have a juice machine, and one juice that will really relax you is apple-celery juice. Sleepytime tea is also a good before bed drink that WILL relax you. Get the kind with valerian root. Good luck!

Found a good short-term answer.....LUNESTRAR.
Got a few samples from a friend, called my doc and made sure it was ok(I know, Im a wimp) tried it, last two nights slept great, almost uninterupted, for 8 hours. I woke up last two daying feeling so much better. Doc said come see him, he can give me a bunch of samples. I heard the prescription is 80 bucks before insurance. But I also heard they can make you Hallucinate(sp?)
