View Full Version : New features of the New LawnSite Software

As you probably have read in the announcement by Pierre-Luc, the new software updates are about all done.
I have been trying to learn all the new features we have here. So far I have found a lot of them, like the Spell Checker, you can now put members on your buddy list to see if they are on to be able to send a Private Message and get a responce, Calander and if you put in your birthday in your profile, it will show up on the calander.
Another nice thing is if anyone sees a post you don't think should be there or bad words in it or you think it need attention, just click on report this post and it will be emailed to all the moderators and list who is on line at the time. Please use this feature, it will help us out a lot.
If you post and want to get notified about any responses just to that post or to any posts on a forum, just click on subscribe to a forum or thread.
As you can see, there are lots of new things for posting, I won't even get into them. :)
The forum should be all back to the way it was soon, but with all these new goodies also. I am still finding new things, so lets all keep searching to see what else you find. Post here what it is you find and what it does. :)
Enjoy
Eric

I'm a little slow here:p
How do I get to the calendar?
And since there are two of us, is there anyway to add both of our birthdays instead of just one?

The only way you could have both birthdays is if you add one of you as a new member.
Here is the link to the new calendar and there will be a link to it somewhere on the forum. Sorry I didn't include that before.
Calendar = http://www.lawnsite.com/calendar.php
To add your name to it, fill it in, in your profile and it will go on the calendar. :)

No flameing envelopes?
Is there something that shows what the enelopes mean, FAQ is not working yet so I was not sure.
I wish envelopes with new post were a different color.
Sound like I'm complaining? I'm not, just trying to figure things out.

.Ray
Click on a forum.
Scroll down to the bottom of the page.
At the bottom it will show you what the envelopes mean.

Aaaaaaahhhh, thanks, I'm not sure how I missed that. DUH

I see we can even rate a thread now. :D
Another feature I found is you can not only see how many posts a member has done in their profile, but their average per day too. :)

I'm not sure how I missed that.
ahem, with your birthday creeping up real soon, I'm sure it's just your increasing age that is making things more difficult.:D
Actually your three days before Matt's b-day, and 8 days before Eric's. :)
This birthday thing is pretty cool.:p
Hey I like the idea of rating a thread. I'll just have to rate all mine best. :) (Just kidding around.)

Just finished importing timezone offsets to the new forum!
Also, the FAQ link now works.
If there's anything I forgot, please tell me...

Really like the calendar feature. The B'day option is cool. Have to get used to the new look and features.

Wow!
Each day I come back to LS it's new & improved :D
I I really like the calendar, but my fav is all the new "tools" for posting, and yes, a spell checker.
The calendar looks very much like the AOL calendar, which I use to schedule customers. I enter a customer's name as a new appointment on whatever day, and it even gives a crude weather forecast. I then print it out and put it in the truck on the clip board I use for estimates and invoicing.

Like the new look and everything, But I did notice one thing. I was doing a search using a three letter word, and it came back and give me a requirement of 4 letters. No big deal just thought i would let you know.

Where is The Buddy List At?
Go to your profile and then click on edit buddy list
Nice job folks. It looks great. I'll be wandering around the site checking out new features. Hey Eric, can you send me your new logo ... for use in the column? Thanks,

COS, I know how to add people in there, but how do I know when people in my list are on or off lawnsite?
Now, another thing, does a little screen pop up anytime you get an instant message (if you set it in your profiles) or just when it's from someone on your buddy list?
Man, I getta get going, I get behind every minute I stay away from here, a whole new way to post!

I Guess the font feature doesn't work. I guess I had to be the one to break the new forum already!
Can't take me anywhere!
Also, as far as file attachments it wouldn't let me upload a doc from MS Word. To make that a text file what do I do, just cut and paste it in my "notebook" than save it?
Later Again!

Okay, now that I've managed to take this thread over all by my lonesome self, I might as well add one more!
Everyone should go in and change from the default in their options section that you recieve an alert screen when you recieve a private message.
Its pretty cool, me and COS messed with it for a while. A button/icon will pop up and tell you you have a new PM and it will ask you if you want to read it now, and if you do, if you want it in a new window or not.
Another thing I discovered was the PM tracking system which I thought was cool as hell also!
You can see if and when your PM's were recieved. Pretty neat, now I'll know when you guys are dodging me!
Man, Lawnsite is becoming a 2nd and 3rd home for me now.
Chuck, can you get this thing to make me dinner??

You should now be able to upload MS Word (.doc) attachements... they are now allowed :) Please note that the maximum size is 100k.

The search index is made with 4-letter words minimum, that's right -- that's to avoid indexing small words such as "a", which would slow down searches.
If you need to search for a 3-letter word, please post it or PM me and I'll see what I can do.
Thanks!
Pierre-Luc
Wow! Just when I thought I was figuring out the controls of the "old" LS, along comes a whole new collection of "toys"!
I like a lot of the new features - one thing I liked better the "old way" was the smilies: multicoloured as opposed to the present all-yellow.
Or is this just something that's still being worked on? If it is, "please disregard this message!" :D

Noticed something else. When you look at someones profile it shows their info, in the upper right you can search all post by that person. It then shows the topic, their post, and even a brief preview of what they typed, that's cool!
Also at the bottom of a thread or forum on the left side it has a pop up box that allows you to jump to a different forum without going back to the main page.

I've seen this instead of "member" status under some names. Whats this mean? Just curious.
Also I haven't gotten the spell checker to work yet.

hey for some reason the symbols that show new posts are not working, when i log onto ls it says there are new posts, i click on forum and now symbols show no new posts, very confusing.

I did like the new setup...... until.... you changed the font size to a smaller one. This may be a minor complaint except for the fact that I suffer from Macular Degeration and have some trouble reading small print.
Yoy didn't make a minor change but a fairly big one.
Or, do I have any control with this without affecting my other screens?
Thanks, Cleve.

Cleve, if you are using Internet Explorer, go to view on your browser and then Text Size and make the text size bigger. I hope this helps.

Eric, Thanks, Looks like I'm going to have to switch to using IE when on this forum. I normally use Netscape (Auto loaded with my current provider) and the font size control doesn't seem to have any effect. Works like a charm on IE.
Now if I can just figure out how to do all the switching over to the IE browser....?
Cleve. :)

Nice format. I have one question - how does one reset the default view between Ascending and Descending order to display new posts?
Guido

Click the yellow arrow in the small box to the right side of The new post heading.
Hope this helps!

I learned two more little things today (probobly could have learned this all at once if I just read the dang instructions! I'm stubborn!)
You can see who's online and who's not by a little yellow arrow in a box in their profile in a post in a thread in a (just kidding, enough in a 's for now :) )
Also Just found the poll feature, tried one out, lets see if it works!
