Help! Engine losses power under load

Have a 16 HP Vanguard on Bunton 52 Hydro. Last few days been dying out when grass is at all tall. Today, just engaging blades strains engine. With blades disengaged, engine revs right up and sounds fine. Any ideas before I turn it over to my very busy dealer repair shop?

does it smoke alot when it is running (black smoke), and when you put a load on it does it stall or just hesitate ?

Had the same thing happen to me on a demo.

Try changing sparkplugs, fuel, and fuel filter.

That's all it took for my engine (25 Kohler)

I have a 17 kaw. and this was happening to me also and I changed all plugs,filters, it turned out to be that the coil was bad,had it replaced and purring like a tiger,RRRRRRRRRR
