Well today being a slow day for me,I went and looked at new ZTR's.
I demode a chopper 60 flatlander,Ransome 61,Toro 61 and The NEW Husqvarna 61.
I am down to 2 Mowers to decide from. The Ransome and the Husky. In my opnion these are the 2 best ZTR's out today..
Not to knock you chopper lovers but the Husky cut just as fast as the Chopper 60(flatlander),But it cut ALOT better.Husky is alot more comfortable and its center of gravity is much lower.Plus the Husky is a $1000 cheaper then the chopper and it has a 3yr spindle warranty.
Now my goal is I have to get at least 15 more accounts that pay $100.00 per month or more..Here is a pic of the new Husky

Please dont knock my opinion
I demode one also . the control was about as smooth as the hustler i posted about. W ish i knew enough to tell if rough handleing is just dealer set up ability or something you gotta live with once you get the machine.
I also demo'd some zrt the other day. I have a toro zrt (44" but I don't like it).
I demo'd a 48" walker w/25 Kolher. This machine is the best, by far -- I you need to bag.
Now I know what all that fuss those Walker guys are talk'n about. I'm already getting ready to trade it in for a Walker.

RB, you better keep the toro for a backup. Walkers are high on maintenance.

I just got in from tearin it up with my new Turf Tiger. It screems like a banshee. I have no complaints on Scag. I ran a 48 wb for the last 2 seasons and decided it was time to separate the Men. She tells heads or tails too. I am very impressed with this machine. I walked out the door for 8 grand.

bump to the top
RB,
What specifically don't you like about your 44" Toro Z? I'm considering one of these or the compatible Exmark.
Thanks in advance,
John

The only thing that I would be wary about is that they haven't been out for a while and don't have a track record.....

These units have been out many years, under the Kees brand.
The Husky is a orange Kees, with different covers and fuel tanks
Kees was bought by Husky last year.
There are some areas that the Kees are popular.
I would make sure you have good dealer support.

I test drove the new 25 horse kawi, 61' husky earlier this year. The machine is or at least seems to be a good one. I run a scag turf tiger and a Great Dane, and even though the guts of the machine are identical, the Great Dane is a mean mowing machine, I honestly think, that my chariot is anxious to get started every day.
I've looked at the Dixie's and think there good machines. What impressed me was the longitivity of the machine. I believe Eric has a machine that has well over 3 or 4 thousand hours on it. A regular 25 horse Kohler is rated at what 2000 hours, and thats if you lucky.

I have both for different reasons.
I have owned a Walker since 1997 and the "problems" I had was mostly with the Kohler 25. Not with maintenance. In fact the maintenance is not much higher than the Toro. Yes there are more grease zerts to fill but other than that I can't honestly say there is much more. The time is the same when you average in the difficulty of changing blades on a Toro as opposed to the new tilt up deck for Walkers.I have had other issues like replacing a safety switch or ignition switch but not 1 major repair other than the Kohler problems. Thats not a Walker issue. I now own a 2000 Walker 42"GHS with a Kohler 26 EFI and have had 0 "breakdowns" in over 300 hours. I am assuming that some of you have had Walkers that broke down. Lets hear about what happened and why. I like informed opinions;)
I have a Toro Proline walk behind with a 44" SFS deck to use when it is wet out. True, it could be a backup but then thats just good business. I primarily use the Walker for discharging clippings and bagging the customer that requires it. The versatility is evident when it is dethatching or leaf cleaning time as well as bagging grass.I haven't found an LCO that can do it as fast and as well as I can unless they have a Walker.
No, its not the fastest flat out mower but it has a great cut and it works for ME.
Have a Nice Day.

WLC,
I have a Toro 44" ZTR as well. It is OK but I do wish I had demonstrated a couple more before I bought it.
1. The wheel base is to small. Does not hold hills good.
2. The engine should be larger. I have the 17HP Kawi. I like the Kawi but I wish is was 19HP or more.
I purchased this machine becasue of the deck size. I wanted something to get into tight spaces. I wish I had gone with a 48" or more and also purchased a 36" wb at the same time. I am kind of stuck with it now. I do plan on a WB purchase this year. I am considering the Great Dane Gateway.
Just my two cents.

I have a John Deere M665, which is the same machine as the Husky/Kees ztr, except for the deck, which is Deere's 7-iron deck and has no equal. So far this has been a great machine for my conditions. If you like the Husky, do yourself a favor and at least demo the Deere and see how much better the 7-iron stamped deck will cut.

I've looked closely at the big Husky ZTR and I don't think the frame is the same as the Kees. The Husky frame members are much larger and tapered. I do believe it's the same deck as the Kees though. Take a closer look I think you'll agree.

RB, and others-
I would suggest that people in need of top notch bagging units checkout the Hustler line. the Shortcut w Uppercut deck, 251,260, and their new Z all have fabulous bagging systems. check out excelhustler.com for pic's and spec's

i use a walker diesel (great on fuel!)and the new toro 44" and like them both.each has its pros and cons. that new ransomes (i think its the same model) looks just like the Bunton BZT which was problematic with all the saftey switches.bunton and bobcat are both owned by Textron. i think i might seriously look into a grasshopper for next season.
