I'm with you George. 2-3 times his cost would be just fine with me, seeing no more time than he'll have in it.

Where can I get this bulb auger? I must admit, I do only a few annuals but when I do, it's usually over 100 at a time. That sounds like an outstanding tool for the job.:)

Does anyone else have a calculator? 65 flats In 4 hours no way, even with Jose. That is 4.33 plants per minute if they are 4" plants and not jumbo packs. You are not burying marbles, you cant just drop then in a hole a cover them up. Do you want them to live too? Maybe some soil amendments and grading. This does not even allow for getting them to the job and disposing of debris. If it costs 3-k for the flowers thats what it costs, the numbers don't lie. Lay down the bong and get out the calculator, numbers are your friend.

A flat contains either 16-4" pots, or 6 to 8 6-pacs per flat. So someone has as few as 1040 plants to plant best case scenario, or as many as 3120 plants to plant. Begonias are fragile plants prone to breaking/snapping off at the base, so extra care should be taken.

So George unless you mom is going to bring you the plants in her mini van and you don't have to pay her you also need to get them there. Forget planting them it will take almost 1 hour just to water them in. Thats if you hit each plant for 3 seconds and you can hover over the planting area without dragging the hose across the plants breaking some, I am assuming you have super powers.

Maybe you will have them delivered but 65 flats does not meet minimum free delivery in this area. Maybe you have an irrigation system to water them in, except that 10$ auger may do some damage to the system and require some repairs.

But probably nothing bad ever happens to you because you live in a dream world.

A more earthly bid would be 3-4 flats per hour, plus mark up, plus warranty plus dump and delivery. I would say minimum 35 bucks per flat depending on how much they cost and whether they are 4" or 6-pac flats.

Just to stop the bickering, I priced them at $35 per flat and got the job. Both for spring and fall. Thanks for the input.

Congratulations, My apologizes for hijacking your thread and going off. Its hard enough to make money in this business when you do bid things well. So when I see irresponsible advise it is annoying at first. Then when I point out the flaws in the advise and catch some abuse for it I just get mad. I should have thrown in a few happy faces when I made the bong statement to illustrate my intent as good natured ribbing.

Perhaps my delivery of information could use some work but the information is always on. I only answer to threads where I am sure of my advise. I have been teaching classes on annual flowers for Az landscape contractors association for 11 years. My company plants over 2-K flats per season on residences. One great thing about teaching is you can learn a lot too if you ask questions, such as what are you guys charging per flat and how many flats do your guys avg. per hour etc. and many more questions.

Oh what the hell so I'm an AZ, :waving: but I know of what I speak.
