I have 1-acre worth of property. I am looking for a powerful string trimmer. Are 4-cycle trimmers any good?
Thanks.

Buy a cheap commercial trimmer. Stihl or Echo or Redmax are all good brands. Owned one of them all and have problems with one thing or another in each of them. None are perfect.

4-cycle more to work on with valves to adjust nothing is better then straight old 2-cycle IMO. Kawasaki, Shindaiwa, Redmax in that order is what i prefer

Echo 2 stoke 260s is what I'm using right now and I like it. I guess it depends what brands are available where you live. Kawasaki, Shindaiwa, Redmax and such aren't sold around here. Just Stihl and Echo.

am using a Stihl FS75. I don't recommend it. 2 stroke, but even with a carb kit it's too cold blooded (a bit low on torque). Far worse is the tiny amount of string the spool holds. Not something you'd tend to think about, but the damn thing is always running out of string.

I do like 2 stroke, but...

g-luck

You will do good with the $200 Echo SRM-210 sold at Home Depot.

Stihl FS-80...hands down.

I second the FS-80. I have 2 acres and have had mine for 5 years with-out a single problem.

redmax they are complete studs...nothing compares to the redmax trimmer...other equip sure..but not the trimmer....i've run stihl, husky, echo, and spent just over $400 for the redmax and it's a stud solid as a rock. echo is crap. stihl has great hedge trimmers and other things. husky is good also, just not for trimmers...whatever u do get a STRAIGHT shaft........

Although I don't do commercial trimming, I finally got tired of buying the cheap ones and bought an Echo last year. I have no complaints with it at all.

Stihl for me; it was no contest. Commercial trimmers are expensive. Whatever you do, buy nothing and I mean nothing from home depot. Go to a dealer.

I think you guys are forgetting this is a home owner looking for a good trimmer. The Echo SRM-210 from Home Depot is perfect for what he wants. Ok, if you want great service for a few more dollars then go to a dealer and buy whatever entry level commercial trimmer they stock. Will most likely be the last trimmer you ever buy as long as you dump the gas before storing each winter.

The Echo SRM 210 would be a good buy but get it from your local dealer. Down with Home Depot!!!!!!! Remember, should the homeowner need assistance, the dealer who he purchased it from will always be more than happy to assist a customer. Tell a dealer you bought it at HD, thats asking for trouble IMO

I only said that because he's a home owner and that is a place that just about every town has. I don't know if he has a Echo dealer or know anything about them. That is why I said that if he would like to use a dealer for better service to just pick up their line of a entry level commercial trimmer. In which case I can't be brand specific.

I am 15 years old, and i have cerebal palsy, so I have to trim in my electric wheelchair. My mother has a WeedEater FeatherLites SST which has a dual line head. But, we both agreed I need a big string trimmer because we have weeds taller than me! I am about 5' 4''. I can not use a U-handled brush cutter in my wheel chair. Also my hands are not very coordinated because of my CP. I need a string trimmer that can be easy to load string onto. I can not decide between an Echo, Huskqvarna or Shindaiwa. Please help!!!
Thanks!

Ed,

Try the Echo with the Rapid Loader head. It is by far the easiest trimmer head to use and load! Have your local Echo dealer show you how it works.

Best of luck!

God Bless
