What kind of mulch does not get any mold or fungus? I've been using hardwood and have been getting bird nest mold out the wazoo.

The only thing that comes to my mind is rocks, and possibly fresh pine straw. Is the mulch being kept overly wet? Is the mulch from a good source? Is the mulch fresh? these are some questions that should be asked.

ah, it just hit me, the mulch that got most of the mold were the houses i did in early year with mulch left over from last year, now the mulch is all hardend and has all the mold still on it. If I remulch them with fresh hardwood on top of all the dead or hardend mold , will it me more likely to have mold?

I would think it would be likely to keep some of the mold. But in time it shoudl dissapear on its own...
Gotta keep turning those mulch piles....

Any dead vegetable material is likely to have a fungus on it while it rots. It's part of the natural decomposition process. Stone is about the only thing that won't have mold on it.
