:jester:

None of the help wanted to work today, so I went out on my own, just like the good ol' days. Of course, I wasn't as fast as usual, but the 7 lawns looked great, and I had fun. Sure wasn't like those 30 lawn days.

i dont think youre classified as a scrub if you work by yourself. as long as you have a professional image, and price fair you arent a scrub.

there are two more things that I would add to this
1. RUN A LIGIT BUSINESS AND PAY TAXES
2. HAVE INSURANCE

is there an age limit or something for being a scrub? can you be too young? i mean i am 19 now. i pay taxes. however as we all know there is cash that never gets reported. i have insurance for what i do. i pay my guy on the books, and with cash as well, a mix. i price my jobs fairly, sometimes low, and other times high. if you even them out i come out in the middle. um... my rig isnt that good looking for right now. but i am workin on it. yes i do use a trailer though. 16' parker towed with a f150 that now has 104,000 on it. i gotta get a dump truck for the tree work though. so am i a scrub?

Alot of times the big crews are the scrubs that leave unweedeated areas, missed edging??? Just a thought, well not actually I saw it the other day.

After you make that $150,000 this season you mentioned in the other thread, you can buy all new stuff. You will need to buy a lot of new equipment for a tax right off. :)

fine lines what an insult to me and all the other guys that fly solo on a daily basis when we cut. would a scrub avage over $450 a day in sales??? 7 days a week rain or no rain. i don't know about these other guys but my last 2 landscaping jobs i have made $45 a hour and $43 a hour today. tommorrow have another landscaping job hoping to make over $50 a hour for a 3 hour day. just 8 yards of mulch, edgeing beds, usual big company stuff. not bad for a 19 year old scrub.

You might be a scrub if........

you announce 2 of your illegal activities to over a 3,000 person competitive audience!

Use your head man!

I wouldn't think of insulting you Joshua. As I have stated in other threads, I have a great deal of respect for soloists.
The only people who get insults from me are the SOHIs.
SOHI = sense of humor impaired.:D

Will we ever rise above that word? We should use a more politically correct word for "those people". How about we start calling "those people"--------"image impaired"---------or "vertically challenged" because they are so low in every aspect of the business.

Whats cash anyway?:blob2:

Actually the image impaired that we refer to should challenge those of us that care about anything to be better at what we do, look better than the rest, communicate better than the rest, and conduct ourselves like true business people.

Just a thought!

 Those of us who are solo operators really take exception to your statement. I am fully licensed, insured, have top of the line equipment, dress decently with company t-shirts, do beautiful work and I always show up on the required day. I have an accountant, pay all of my required taxes and all of my invoices and envelopes are computer generated. Why would you claim me to be a scrub?

My brother is still in high school so he can't help until around 3:30 in the day. I like to start early when its cool around 7:30-8:00. I flew solo for the better part of April and the first part of May. My brother's last day was friday and I love it. I love having the help and I have alot of respect for the guys who fly solo exclusively. Not really a reply to Fine Lines just my 2 cents. Nice rig in the picture, wish I had a truck like that!

Half of those I see that I view as scrubs are two or three to a cab with beat up mowers slammed into the back of the truck or trailer. Some of the best setups I see lately are by solos.

SCRUBS...

- Don't carry insurance (They decided not to get it).

- Do sub-par work (Because the clients accepts it).

- Low-ball work (because they don't have the overhead).

- Don't pay taxes (Cash is the name of their game, mention "books" to them and you'll probally be reminded of "Gone with the Wind").

- Aren't licensed (that cost's money)

We usually call them "MAN WITH MOWER" lawn care.

For those of you who took exception to this thread, I think you took me WAAAAAY too seriously. You will never EVER see me deliberately insult anyone on this forum.

This is done with... if you want to see "scrub" talk do a search on the term.
