View Full Version : Well pump for irrigation

Looking for some advice. Have an old dug well that is capped off in my basement. Would like to use it for a sprinkler system. Haven't gotten a pump yet. Only problem is that the suction line coming from the well is 1". Not many pumps available with 1" inlets. Just wondering if the 10 or so gpm is a realistic amount of flow to water about 1 acre of grass. Any info appreciated.

A system can definitely be designed for 10 gpm for 1 acre just plan for a lot of zones and count on your system running for a long time in order to get the watering done.

That sounds like a driven well , it may produce 10 gpm , but for how long is the question . It would depend on your water table . It may run dry after a while , I would hang a pump on it and run it for 10 or 12 hours before I would put in the sprinkler
