walker - Blade timing...re-timing

Well, when buying a used machine you discover a few issues right ! I have a 42inch deck which had 36in deck blades fitted. Discovered this when I broke a shear pin recently.... Anyway wanted to fit the new blades and the gearboxes are currently timed at 180 degs - so both blades would be inline. This was ok wth the old blades as they were smaller and did not overlap. So is there a way I can retime the gearbox so the blades are at 90 degs. I have the old deck that has the grease nipples on the tube connectors between the gearboxes. I think the machine is a late 80's model (not sure).

take the gearbox off one end, turn spindle by hand until blades are perpendicular (90 degrees). slide box back on. (use new gasket). remount to deck. put blades back on. come mow my yard to try it out.
