Does anyone know the aproximate sound level of a ZTR while mowing with the blades engaged. My mower is a 27 hp Z. Just trying to get an accurate level to choose the right hearing protection and just to know in general. Thanks.

THAT question has more variance for answers - They are all loud. Just get you some music, crank-it-up, and mow, mow, mow......:usflag:

Hearing protection should always be worn while using any ZTR, trimmer, blower, etc. Here's a link: http://www.allhearingprotection.com/

I did a little searching on Yahoo! and looked at several university studies that all said that the average lawn mower produces anywhere from 90-100 db's. I'm assuming they are talking about residential mowers though, and I think commercial equipment would be a little louder, so I would say 100+ db's for what we run.

Thanks for your input. I would say 100 to 110 db's sound about right. Where is the best place to buy, I would like a pair with about 30 db of noise reduction. Thanks.

I bought some from Radio Shack. They are racing scanner style. Mine cut out 20 db and that makes a huge difference. You can still listen to music, plus you can adjust the volume on the head set itself. Won't be changing any time soon, I can go all day and the don't bother me.
