Briggs 18 Twin II

Model 422707 Type 151201 Code 88102712

First off, does anyone know what max factory RPM is on this motor?

Second
This motor is purely a "fun" motor. I had an extra mower laying around with this motor and simply made it a speed machine. Several people have warned me about simply bypassing the governor and that I shouldn't do that for safety reasons. If I can't do that can I increase the max rpm beyone factory specs some without risking the motor breaking into pieces? If so what would be a safe rpm?

This mower will not be mowing lawns, just a toy.

3600 is what the factory sets the governor at. beyond that, its anyones guess how long it'll last. as far as safety, ive never seen one come apart, broken parts usuallystay inside the motor.
the local kart track has a class for stock 5 horse briggs engines. most guys use the smaller 3 horse flywheel, and no governor, thats about all thats allowed. some engines will last all seasons races this way, some blow up after 5 laps. i doubt they get to 5000 rpm.
your engine is 18 years old, who knows how much life it has left to begin with.
