I was wondering what everyone charges for Mulch. I know basically every job has different cleanup needs and hard places where the mulch basically is installed. But to say the mulch costs you $25 a yard picked up, what do you charge for install and normal cutting the edges and thats about it?

usually about $75.00/yard.

It varies a lot, depends on kind of mulch and what you want and how:

The cheapest mulch which is standard double-shredded I deliver and spread for 45 a cube but the price only drops to that for 4 cubes or more: 1 cube is 55, 2 is 100, 3 is 145 and 4 is 175 while 5 is 220.

If you want premium double-shredded, that's 55 a cube and not to go through it again, 5 cubes = 275 delivered and spread.

If you want designer mulch, that's 65 a cube, 5 cubes = 330 d + s.
Why designer? Because it doesn't fade, I give a 60-day Guarantee of NO color fade or I do it over. Some folks let designer go for 2-3 years before replacing it, spending the money on the high grade can be the cheapest option for some.

All of the above is rake-spread prices, I have a lot of experience and usually spread mulch with a rake about 1-2 inches thick... Most of the time I get at least twice the coverage out of a cube as the new guy but it doesn't take them long to catch on.

If I hand-spread, I can spread it so thin it is almost as good as a blower truck and I get twice the coverage than rake spreading but it takes twice as long:
Hand-spreading I will only do for designer mulch due to the pita of the job, it runs 80 dollars a cube minimum, but at twice the area covered it is actually the cheapest of all of the above, and still comes with a 60-day NO color fade guarantee.

Double shredded chocolate dyed costs us $26 a yard, sure we could find cheaper stuff elsewhere, but come on, let's face it, that stuff looks like crap.
We charge $95.00 installed, always have, and infact was considering raising our price this year, but we stuck with the $95. I see prices way so low on here, i can't believe it. It is just not WORTH it to be lower, by the time you go get the mulch (i'm talking for 3 yards or less), return to the jobsite, wheelbarrow it over to the beds, lay it down, it chews up time. We get $95 installed with no problem, customers don't even bat an eye. Bed edging is additional charge.

wow 95 per is good money. I normally get 70 per yard and pay 15/ yard delivered. I just has a vp of a restaurant blow up on me over 70 bucks per yard.

Labor for install of mulch depends how much crap is in the beds. Over planted mess I usually say thanks but no thanks. We try to do the easy ones and let the rest go. Labor only 50 -65 a yard and once you get over 60 ppl around here tell you to get the F!!!!!! off their property. I wish we could get more but everybody with a wheelbarrow around here spreads mulch for 20-25 bucks a yard.

05-02-2006, 08:29 PM
i went up this year too $75 per yard installed and before we can spread it we charge per hour for bed edging and bed clean-up and the hourly rate depends on how many guys working that day.

05-02-2006, 08:34 PM
60 /yard plus .60 per foot for edgeing. If there is alot of weeding I charge extra...

05-02-2006, 08:59 PM
I dont understand how you guys are getting mulch for $17 a yard.. Triple shreaded root mulch costs me $30 a yard picked up.. and thats the contractors price... this is all the nurserys around here....

Thats cause you're dealing with a nursery which is a retail establishment. Even if they give a "contractor" or "wholesale" price. The key is to buy the mulch from the company that supplies the nursery.

17 a yard isnt bad, but not the cheapest
depends where your from

15 a yard here with free delivery. Spread for 45/yard depending on access and amount of plants

100$ a yard and we get the best mulch available in the state of Illinois, for the price of sending dumps to pick it up and bring it to the yard.

I understand they are the retail place, but The real wholesale suppliers are not around here... and like I said before they wont deliver for under 100 yds

I Charge 45.00 a yard installed. But also charge for removal and disposal of old mulch. I will not remulch an area that has been there for more then a year. Genrealy I tell them it would just be easier to remove what you have any way. which it is plus it looks bad if you remulch over anything thats been there longer then a year anyway.

I pay $24/yd and get $70/yd. Clean out of beds and edging is all extra.

05-03-2006, 01:08 PM
Hm, thats strange, never heard of anything like that... Root much bio-degrades... works itself back into the soil.. I would never waste the time to be removing mulch if it wasnt needed

05-03-2006, 02:11 PM
60/ yd pine and 70/yd hemlock. Delivered and spread. Edge and weeding extra. mulch it's self is 26/35 respectively.

05-03-2006, 09:07 PM
68.00 a yard, delivered and installed.

05-03-2006, 09:27 PM
$90 a yard installed. Contractors price for mulch at the local nursery is $37.50 a yard. I can get it for $35 but the mulch has hudge chips in it.

05-03-2006, 09:27 PM
65-75 installed. Depends on how many yards they need. Today I did an estimate that needed 9 yards. I quoted 65/ per yard installed. I get it at contractors price $21.00. and it still steaming when I get it

05-03-2006, 09:42 PM
Also some places call 3/4 yard a yard. I go one place and get 5 yards on my trailer another place was able to put what they called 10 yards on. The 10 yards was alot more expensive than the 5 yards and the 5 yards was better mulch

05-03-2006, 10:29 PM
$75.00 a yard and like $60 a yard over 6 yards. depending on difficulty of course

05-03-2006, 10:53 PM
Do you people actually charge/quote by the yard? If so, Why? I just quote them a price. How many yards I use and how I much I pay for it/charge them is my business only - not the customers.

05-04-2006, 03:49 AM
I get mulch for $17/yard and charge $50/per yard to spread. Edger rental is also added in if requested.

I think most people want to know how much of a product they are getting.

$65-85 per yard installed. I will touch up the edging minorly for this as well. If any major edging is needed, that gets charged by the hour. Mulch costs me between $19-28 a yard picked up. If it is a large job and the mulch is delivered, it costs a bit more.

05-04-2006, 01:05 PM
I charge what the $10 more then what the mulch cost(so my labor is not so high) me a shipping charge $50 on up depending on location and $50 per yard of mulch layed out
