:( We haven't had rain in at least a month. I'm only cutting about 60% of my route this week and proply only about 30% next week. Today I had to wear a dust mask when I was cutting because I gott so much dirt in my mouth. Oh yah and it's only the middle of may, good thing I have a ton of paver and wall jobs lined up  :p

We got rain yesterday and today. Both days we quit early as it was getting too soggy out.
Matt did say though he heard on the news that we are still down 1 inch of rain this month compared to last May. And down 3 inches for the year.

I know Matt gets antsy when we have to quit early due to rain, but how in the heck can we complain? We're just grateful we are getting some.

we thatched about 30M sq. ft. today and man oh man was that stuff dry. then when you blow it off all the dust. right now i dont care about cutting lawns, i got enough other stuff to do where i am not concerned about it. but the fert accounts are not happy right now. and the planting jobs i have, as well as the new lawns, i worry. i drove by one of the crazy people's houses today. this guy, landscapers owe him money, they work it off. so needless to say his lawn always looks real nice. last year i was cutting it and it looked great. drove by today (with irrigation) lawn looked horrible. i would hate to be the new guy. this customer is beyond insane if you catch him at the wrong times. lucky for me i only work for the nice crazy people now.

I know what you mean! Right now we are over 3" below normal for the year. It looks like a replay of last year. I think we finshed at about 13"-14" below normal! Now that is dry! As a newbie, this type weather seems like a double-edged sword. You try to get all the lawns you can, then it gets so dry you can't stay busy enough...then you try to get the other type jobs (mulching, landscaping, etc.). You get busy doing these jobs and then it rains and the grass grows wild. Now you don't have time to do the yards because of the other jobs. I guess its just a vicious cycle you handle the best you can.

We wound up getting 1.1" in the last 24 hrs. Let's hope everyone gets some soon. This is the driest spring I've seen in a long time. I think we've only had 1 large thunderstorm all spring, that's very unusual for around here. I read somewhere that we're 2nd to Florida in lightning strikes, but not this year so far.:blob3:

Tallahassee has not had rain since... what year is this? 2001? But seriously folks, north FL has not had a serious soaking rain in several months. We've been in a 3 year drought. Spoke to one of my customers yesterday. He wondered if in 10 years there is going to be a desert in this part of the country. I'm all for putting on a loin cloth and do some Indian dances. Any body willing to teach me some?

Cordially,
Sheppard

It's so dry in my neck of the woods that the cactus are wilting. We're no longer mowing grass, just stirring the dust and leaving tracks. I hate mowing when you have to watch for the tire tracks to keep from going over the same spot twice. Bad thing is the forecasters ain't predicting any serious rain for us anytime soon. Sure hope the rest of ya'll are having better luck. :blob2:

We've been getting rain for the last 2 days. Not any heavy down pours but light rain. Some of you guys might want to call the 'Rain King' he was on the X-Files a few nights ago. Just kidding, I hope you guys that need it get it soon, I had to pass 2 lawns this week because they were brown.

You'd think with all the humidity that we have in the SE that the grass would be able to pull some water from the air. Seems that it happens the other way around, the air pulls it from the grass.
Fortunately, things have been looking alright here. I did notice that the grass is beginning to look a little stressed at a place that I went to put a bid in on today but they're supposed to be turning the sprinklers on soon.:)

We could really use the rain here in Southeast Texas. It is really getting dry around here. Clients are having to water there yard quite a bit. The biggest chance of rain we have is for Mon possible 40%. Hopefully it will increase over the weekend. The dust around here is terrible. Not good on the sinuses!:(

We are getting on and of kind of rain today. Well it actually rains almost everyday somewhere in the islands. But many areas need irrigation as they are too far away from the mountains to catch the mountain showers.

Aloha,

Here where I live its legal to spray organic fertlizer on without a license. so if the coustomer dosent mind I use it,SO we went almost a month without rain and everbodies grass wasnt growing but all my customers was I still (had) to cut once a week. I know you think that Iam pullng your leg but it really worksbecause it was desinged for drouts. It cost 8.00 for 1200 square feet a use it once a week for two weeks and then Iam done for a month or so I charge 20.00 a application. And belive me once they saw the results every one wanted it done. So to make a long story short even in a drought Iam busy than a normal season.just because I did my home work. I hope this helps someone out.

$20 an application? What if my lawn is 10,500 sf?
