I was wondering if any of you have ever up graded engines on your ztr. I have a Gravely 144z with a 19 kaw. and it is a little underpowered. I was wanting to go to either a 22 or a 25 hp. I have also heard that there are some small engine warehouses online that sell new motors for good prices and was wondering if anyone knew of any websites that are out there. Thanks for the help.

Make sure your drive part will handle the extra hp. I too have thought about this and this is what I have been told. The zt2800 hyrogear will handle around 26hp tops. The Izt much less. hope this helps

Try the guys at J. Thomas. It seems like they are pretty big into selling upgrades.

The biggest problem you may with that is getting the correct parts to do the swap. The Kaw engines from 12.5 HP to 19 HP all share a lot of common dimensions. The bolt patterns to bolt the engine to the frame are the same and most of the output shaft lengths and diameters are the same. That means you can pull a 12.5 off and a 19 should bolt right in with a minimum of difficulty. Pullies and clutches should also bolt right up too.
When you jump from 19 HP to a 21 HP you run into problems. The 21 and up engines all use a bigger bolt pattern as well as bigger diameter output shafts.
Unless Gravely has put a 21 HP or larger engine onto your specific model of mower then you will have problems finding the correct parts to do the swap.

Check our selection out. 19-25 hp use the same bolt pattern, I'm 99% sure
