What is this suppose to be? Some kind of dump bed on a trailer?

Brianslawn
05-05-2006, 10:27 PM
one of the dump boxes we made. we took a couple trailers and started customizing and rebuilding them.

Thats cool Brian, I thought of that myself also but never really followed thru. The one question I had was how does that effect your handling of the trailer? I know it probably isnt a major problem but does tounge weight come into play at all?
I know most loads aren't terrible but sometimes I have lots of weight on the tounge and it bothers me but I have never bent a hitch or broke a trailer.

What are you using for picking the box up to dump it? Show me some specs so I can steal the idea.:waving:

Mow Ed, on the issue of toungue weight, I bought an adjustable hitch a while back. It has 4 different heights I can set it to. I have a 6x12 and a 6x16 trailer that is a lot heavier. This has helped balance the load many times. When I know I will carrying a lot of weight, I just pull the pin out and slide the hitch up. This raises the tongue of the trailer up and shifts the weight. I bought eh hitch ata local Ato Zone, about $50 or so.

I do like that idea with the side dump. I might give that some thought.

sorry all the pics are kinda dark. it finally quit raining about dark. we did add some tongue weight but not a whole lot. handling aint bad. i would like to add brakes on the trailer. truck is already wired with controler. we keep mowers toward back of trailer to balance. electric winch lifts the box. floor of box used to be a gate from another trailer. it will go higher, just didnt want to unload there. we're almost done with dump box on 20' trailer as well. that on will have an 8'x7' box made from scratch and powered by a 2 ton hydrualic scissors kit. tongue weight on that one wont matter as it is pulled by the f550.

as for details on how they work.... we'll gladly build anyone a custom trailer of their own. :waving: payup

Brianslawn

ive had 3 on a 6.5x12 trailer before. usually 2 on this one but can probably get 3 maybe 4 if i tried. the 20' we load 4 when we do the appartments, but can probably get 6 on it if i needed to.

this one here is the 6.5'x16'. the pic you got is the 7.5'x20'. both have dump boxes. both look about the same. 16' dump is cable winch. 20' is hydraulic.

Cool set-up.
But how do you keep from having to run over the stuff just dumped?

Guess you could sorta jack-knife to the left and pull away without the trailer moving forward very much...

james... we got one or two walkers sitting around.

last week we rolled into the appts with 2 trucks and trailers with 6 of the walkers. we had 3 new guys to train and i had to take off early to get tractor and go do some dirt work. james, you would say the same thing mike did when he saw a few of my pics. :waving:
