View Full Version : Total Ban On Watering
HOMER

Well if you think things can't get any worse think again.
Today the Mayor of our fair City put a total ban on any outside watering. No irrigation, no car washing, no pool filling, no nothing! At least before there was a little ray of hope because the irrigated yards weren't as dusty............now if they comply, which I'm sure most will because the penalty can be having your water turned off, those yards will be shot in a couple of weeks.
Maybe we'll get a shower or two soon, one can only hope and pray!

I am really sorry to hear this Homer. We are at the inch a day growth here right now on some lawns and we have to double mow some. I wish we could share some rain with ya. ;)

awww Homer, sorry to hear that.
I know a lot of people seem to be hurting for rain here on Lawnsite, but out of everyone, I'm really pulling for you to get the wet stuff. You're one of my favorites here, down to earth and real.
Hoping you get an all day soaker soon!
I hate to hear about the problem you are having down in Alabama. It is getting bad here in KY too. We are supposed to get a shower tonight and a chance tomorrow. We really need 2 or 3 to do any good. I have been and will be praying.

Stick it out Homer. You can make a pile on landscaping everything that has dried up when the rain returns

homer some rain just passed over ohio and is heading south i hope it stops at all your lawns and givs them a good soaking for a day. i'm with eric elm, most of my yards are being cut at 5 or 6 days still and don't show any sign of stoping yet, we've been getting over night rains and early morning rains. i'm sad though because i wanted to landscape every sat. & sunday. but i can only landscape 1 of the days to keep up with the cuttings.
homer i hope you get some rain along with all you other guys

...thats how long since our last real rain. Only occasional showers since, not even an inch total since April 8 and all was isolated showers. Mid range forecast shows a break for the northeast next week. We shall see.
Think us lawn guys have it bad, seems the orchards lost 80+ % of their apple crop last week when, after a week of 90+ degree temps forced the blossoms the temps dipped to the low 20s one night killing all the buds.
Sux to be them for sure.
Our yards are burnt to a crisp here. No rain in sight! I'm cutting about once a month! Watering bans! Fires! Help! Sorry, I'm ok now.LOL

I think this is even worse than last year:mad: HIgh fuel prices, lots of competition, drought all are a terrible combination. I didnt do much this week and nothing is on the schedule for the next. When a front does pass through the showers are very scattered. I can see them off in the distance. Talk about torture and they alway follow the same pattern. I feel for all you guys and gals. What is suppose to be prime time in the biz is a bust and has been especially in the south for the past 3 years. They keep saying showers and say that for this weekend but I really have no confidence in that. Once a drought pattern sets in it takes a big storm to break it. Nothing going on in the tropics either yet and none expected until june. No water ban here but most of my customers would rather let their grass die than spend the money watering it and they seem to like the fact that they dont have to pay me. WE just have to waite it out and work 2 times has hard when and if the rain starts or start looking for a REAL job LOL

Hey Homer, today it will rain here in Bama. We need it big time. My business has slowed down. Many customers changed from weekly to every other week (ouch).
we need a good farmers rain for about 3-4 days. The only lawns that look good are those with sprinkler systems. Well lets pray because right now it is cloudy.
It seems like everything went from green to brown overnight. One week I was so happy how green everything was and then the next week I was bumming because everything was burnt up. I keep telling my customers to insure they water but, I don't think they understand how much to water. I've been telling them to water about 45 minutes every other day. especially after putting out fert.
Let's hang in there Homer because rain is coming.

It looks like we're fixing to have a good one finally. Everything is brown that I cut and unless we get a good one, instead of cutting grass, you'll see me on the side of the road picking up aluminum cans and selling them, or better yet, "Welcome to Taco Bell, may I take your order"?
Hey Homer, I know how you feel, we just went about 3 weeks with no water. Yards are burning.. The last 2 days have cool and a little wet and last night we got a good rain with the first thunderstorm of the year.

I feel for ya Homer. I'm in pretty much the same boat. We've had watering restrictions for the last couple of years (one day per week) but the grass that grows here (Floratam) needs about 2 inches per week to look good. This all may have a silver lining though, I don't see as many scrubs out, so maybe it'll drive some of them out of business. Lets all keep praying, maybe even wax our trucks, that'll get the rain started for sure.

Here we still have watering restrictions had a real bad summer last year our lakes were very low one city only had 14 days left of water in their lake and volunteers got together and made a water line from that city to another so they would have water. It is raining here right now and I am sure glad to see it when it's done here Homer Ill try to get to move your way. Hope you get some soon.

What a difference a day makes!
We got wet today, pretty good afternoon shower. Caught me two times but never fear, enclosed trailer is here!:p
Supposed to have a chance all week of afternoon thunderstorms.........now that would be just like old times!

Hopefully one day Florida will get some rain. We are 60" low right now. They say we are supposed to get into our normal rain patterns in June. But it will be 2-3 years before the lakes fill back up.

How little change a year has made. Some of us are hurting for water, and other have too much. (floods in the mid part of the country). Here we have not had 3 inches of precipitation this year yet. Normal is for 5 and you can see it. Hardly any thing is green, lawns that are not watered are not growing, there is no pasture for the cattle, ranchers are already out of pasture, still feeding hay.
A lot of my customers are fearing water restrictions this summer. One is  , I think that she is inviting them so she won't have to pay me. She is a pita, she doesn't realize that the $10 increase per week this year is due to her being a pita. I have never increased any body's but hers more than $5 at at a time.

We've had more than our fair share of rain already. It finally stopped, and I'm putting the plans for the ark on hold.
I'd be happy if it would stay (at least) in the 60's here. We had frost last night. At least it didn't snow.
Gotta love Indiana!

It seems the weather pattern is identical to last year. If this holds true then the coming months will be good to us, after our dry spell last year we got into a pattern of getting afternonn thunderstorms nearly every day. Keep them fingers and toes crossed Tranum........might be OK after all.
Man......time flies when your having fun huh!
