View Full Version : Any good??MO DECK polymer deck treatment

Does anyone use MO DECK?
Is it any good, saves time?
I hate scraping. Is that a good price $6.95 listed at lawn-site?
Does anyone pull the spark-plug when scraping?
I want answers dammit!
Administrator

I would not endorse a product that did not work.
Its $6.50 a can... not $6.95
The polymer coating is great.... gets better the more you use it.
Some people might say "use cooking oil spray, it works". I tried that and it caused a major stinky mess. I had gnats follow me wherever I went.

Pull the spark plug wire when your under your deck.
It probobly would never happen, but it must have happened to someone or the idea wouldn't exist, right?
If you turn the blade under the deck, theres a chance you can start the engine because your turning it over.
Better 3 seconds of safe then Sorry!

What's the difference between Mo-deck and Pam cooking spray?
Administrator
05-19-2001, 05:54 PM
Pam cooking spray is something you use to coat a pan before cooking so food will not stick.
Mo-Deck is a polymer coating for mower decks.
As mentioned before.. I tried the cooking spray. It caused a stinky mess. I had gnats following me around.

I bought a case of it when they were advertising here.It does help on my dixie, especially in front of the deck where it would clog before in 10 minutes, now it will stay functional long enough to finish a lawn when wet.I still get build up above where the blades spin. But i only put it on twice so far,and have mowed about 25 hrs so far.

What is the difference between this stuff and mow-eze? I have tried mow-eze.

I tried Mo-eze,too.I didnt work for me,and the bottle it came in was brittle, and the trigger pump leaked, and didnt spray well at all.Mo-deck is in a spray can that works, and I can keep it on my tool box,the Mo-eze leaked all over the place in my storage box,at least 1/2 of it was wasted-not that it was any good anyway.

Hold that thought... I am waiting on information about a product that is designed for plow blades, etc. It is from the maker of Mo-Deck.

I will process your order tomorrow.. its late right now.
Thanks
John's comments about Mow-Eze were my experience with it also. I tried a few different oils and have been using industrial cooking spray (not Pam) for a couple of years. I have not had the problems Chuck mentions and it has worked the best out of everything I tried. Pam is too expensive, and maybe Chuck had those problems from using that brand (different ingredients?)? I will try the Mo-Deck and hopefully it works better than the cooking spray, since it has been designed for mower decks.

Part of the gnat problem came with the fact that my dad crushed cans and left the cans in the garage in a barrel. The gnats went from the cans to my mowers and just followed the mowers around. :)
Yes, the polymer coating is designed for mowers.. not cooking. :)
I still might coat the grill though when I get it ;)

I give the Mo-deck a solid thumbs up:) , this past week,we had thick ,tall grass to cut,and this is where I used to have trouble. This time, when i mowed my lawn,I didnt have to stop, not once, and clean the deck, this is the first time I have been able to mow 7 acres without scraping the deck, with my Dixie chopper. Not only didnt I scrape, but i couldve mowed even longer, but ran out of grass to cut.I think its worth the money in timed saved alone, not to mention the better cut a clean deck gives compared to one that the bafffles are full of grass on.I still get a tiny bit of build up in the hooks of the baffles(on my Dixie Chopper),but before it was clogged in 10 minutes.I found one can will treat my 60" deck about 2 1/2 times.

I'm going to give it a try. I just ordered 6 cans. After scraping grass tonight from the mower, I've had enough of that.

Your order has been processed. :)
Thanks
I'm giving it a thumb's up also, and I'll be returning my unused cooking spray to my buddy in the food biz! As advertised, it reduced the amount of clippings that stuck to the deck, and the stuff that did stick was easier to scrape off than in the past. Got to try it in my usually hardest situations and it stood up to the test well. Easy to use and I believe I'll get 3+ coatings out of a can for my 48" decks. Didn't try it on the grill yet, BUT, I did try it on my hand tampers. In the past while tamping wet stone dust or soil, the material would clump up on the tampers. Didn't have that problem tonight. Thanks Chuck.

I order some of the product and also give it a solid thumbs up. One question, should I spray the deck each time I change blades until the 6 cans are gone, or spray when I start to notice more of a build up. I am on the second can now on my 52" Snapper.

Mo-deck really works,I just sharpened my blades after mowing 6-8" of thick damp grass down to 3 1/2".I couldnt believe how clean the deck and chute were still. This stuff is like fine wine,it gets better with age,I've coated my deck 3 times now,it is getting better every time I use it.I will likely just have to quickly dust the deck soon to maintain my slick finish.I get practically zero buildup now, even after running double low lifts this week.Since using it, I've saved over 2 man hrs already scraping, and cleaning.I still have 4 1/2 cans out of the 6 I bought left.At my average rate,Ive already paid for the 1/2 case of Mo-deck twice over, and have a lot left.I feel the cost is easliy justified if you have to scrape often, like I did.I hated getting soaked on my back in the rain/dew cleaning a deck that was going only going to plug again in 5 minutes. Thanks again Chuck.

Whew, ive got sooo many plans I don't even know where to start!!
I got some data discs from distributors but they are unix based. I need to get the software to view them.
BTW.. I just started working on http://www.opeguide.com
You can see a basic outline.... follow the ariens links. I have a LOT of work to do on that project.

I'm interested guys, but want to know from you guys that have used it, how long does each application last? And are they $6.50 or $10.00? And how many coatings can I expext to get out of a can for a 44" Deck? I'm guessing three coats? How big are the cans?

Anyone out there used both mow eze and mo deck? Along with those of you who have replied about your dissapointments with mow eze, I had very poor results from a relatively expensive product. Let me know of your comparisons.

VibeRay.. $6.50 a can ... as reported 3 coats on a 44" deck.
I do have about 8 cans that I will sell individually for $10 each S&H included.

about how long will this stuff stay in wet cutting conditions and how often do you have to treat?
Administrator

On the can it says "oil changes are a good time to recoat the deck"... my guess is maybe a little more frequent in wet conditions.

I bought a case of Modeck a week ago. We tried it on a Walker GHS catcher deck. we scraped it totally clean down to metal. Spray a good coat of MoDeck on it and its as clean as it went out after a day of picking up grass with dew and damp grass all day, never clogged the deck either. Great stuff Cant wait for snow plow relief.

Ok. Glad everyone is so excatic about this amazing new product. And not to rain on everyone's parade but is there anyone here who has used it and didn't like it?
I am just wondering if it's just really so great that there's not a single person who didn't like it. Or if they're just not speaking up because they don't want to look like the only dissenter.....

Well Jim, as Chuck says, "you can't please all of the people all of the time", so there may just be a few dissatisfied customers out there.
As for us, we ordered six cans in March. We've used it when we were forced to cut in the rain, and I must say, it worked darn good!

I may be interested here in a bit, I'll let you know. A BIG question here is frequency of use. I was wondering the same thing but it kind of got answered for me. NOW think about this, and tell me if this makes sense. I'm no expert on this product, as I have never even tried it, but grass buildup is basically buildup on other grass, right? (You know, those "clumps" we get?) Well if we know right where those clumps tend to form, (different places under different decks) then wouldn't it be logical tthat after the whole deck has been treated to just repeat those areas and emphasise where those clumps form? This seems like it would be a bit more conservative on the product this way. Just a thought. :blob3: Thanks Chuck.

I'm using Mo-Deck on my 52" toro SFS deck. It hasn't been nearly as wet here as it was a month ago. :(
I mowed one morning in dew-wet grass, I pulled the deck down last week-end and there was some grass under the deck - but not as bad as before.
But then again, I haven't tried it in real wet conditions yet.

So far so good with me. I've only sprayed my deck once and it has very little buildup. And believe me, everything stays wet here. Last week 11 inches of rain and rain every evening this week. I highly recommend it.

I change oil every 50 hours. Is this frequent enough to apply one coat every time I change oil or do I need to apply a coat more often than that?

I used this product for the first time this year and was not impressed. I was carfull in applying; clean dry deck, two coats. This stuff went on like water, it did not ahear well. after it dryed, it was like an oil film. After I mowed the lawn, most of the grass came off with a hose but I still had to get out the pressure washer out to get it clean. The next time I mowed, I went back to my mixture of diesel/20w50 oil and the clean up was easier. I have 4 more cans of this stuff. I wonder if I can use it to cook eggs?

We have sold literally hundreds of cans of MO-DECK, ( maybe thousands ) and you are the very first person/company to find this product not to do as promised. As a matter of fact, I have received dozens and dozens of emails and letters from customers thanking me for making available a product that has saved them time and money.
I am sorry you are not satisfied. Did you buy this product from LawnSite.com?
PS... we have received dozens of MO-DECK orders over the past two weeks. Thanks everyone for supporting LawnSite.com. Every purchase you make brings a little profit that helps pay the fees that it costs to run LawnSite.com.
Thanks
I processed an order online on the 10th and mistakingly it posted twice instead of once. Then when I tried to call the Lawnicure # on my online bank statement the guy says this is not there # and he gets calls all the time about them but didn't know anything else. Question 1., what # do I call to fix my order and 2. How long should it take to recieve since it posted on the 10th? Thanks.

Hrm.. very weird. All my contact information with my merchant is up to date. I know they have my mailing address because they send my bank statements to me. I wonder why, if they have received calls they would not send me a letter if they claim not to have my phone number..? Also, my merchant service is one of the largest in the country.... I wonder how the heck the customer service person you spoke with remembered my name specifically? I will check into this immediately and update any contact info if they don't have it. BTW.. Lawnicure was the name of my lawn care service.
Send an email to support@lawnsite.com with your invoice # so I can check into it.
Hey I was just looking over this thread again and had not noticed the line where you wanted me to send you my invoice #. well someone said earlier about telling like it is ...I've been thru 2 cans of this product. It does make cleaning the deck easier for sure. But...with both the hp 52 and the 21", there is still considerable grass buildup.I'm not sure any product can make the grass not build up on the decks...I am a bit disapponted that the 21" bogs down as often as before using this product. Right now I'll give it B minus. It is not inexpensive so I need to see better results before re-ordering
